Pick an animal totem :)

lol, I just went ahead and picked my favorite animal though I think some descriptions do fit me better. I can defenetly identify with the lynx as well as I usually gain profound knowledge and udnerstanding of concepts but keep it in silence a lot of the times.

This whole business is a bit iffy.
One does not pick a totem.

This makes a sacred ritual into a travesty, desecrating its power.
You might as well play Pick A Religion.

Is nothing sacred to you people?

Many people do play "pick a religion," for real.

That aside, why do you speak as though totems are supposed to be sacred above all else?

One also does not push one's religion/belief system on another. One also does not denigrate another's belief.

Here is what I was draw to. I'm not sure why because I usually see myself as a feline. But this seems to fit somehow. If I remember right, Restraint had me as this in the thread where we put what animal your fellow members reminded you of. The last part about color is really strange but does speak to me!

HERON, EGRET
heron.jpg

Aggressive Self-Determination
Self-Reliance

A Heron and Egret totem teaches balance; the ability to progress and evolve --to walk into deeper waters without fear. It is important for someone with a Heron and Egret totem to learn to stand on their own two feet, to become independent and self-reliant.

Heron and Egret has a strong connection to the element of Earth and you must also be aware and cultivate this connection. The Mother Earth is a source of strength and will help you stand strong and firm.

Heron medicine allows you to perform many tasks at the same time, keeping all in balance. If one way doesn't work, then another way will. Heron and Egret people seem to instinctively know this.

Heron people do not need a lot of people in their life and they are often follow non-traditional roles. They feel no need to "keep up with the Jones." They stand out in their uniqueness and know how to take advantage of things and events that most people wouldn't bother with. You know what is best for you and you should follow that path.

Be aggressive when opportunities present themselves --don't let them get away from you. Meditation on color will provide insight to Heron and Egret people.

Crow, why should we not explore what you have already? We have no Shaman or indigenous people to guide us. And why did you tell someone "Ha, I knew you were a fox" a few posts earlier if you thought this was unsacred? Some do this for fun, while others (many I think) look for a deeper meaning. Is this not what we should all strive for? I let my Ni guide me here, as always.

What happens to an Indian, if he can't pick a totem? Throw him on the human pile? (food, compost) :p

Many people do play "pick a religion," for real.
NTJs do the following:
- evaluate economic value of each religion (incl. forms of weak/strong agnosticism and atheism)
- evaluate social postive and negative impact on personal influence
- evaluate impact on ensuring solid marriage (to improve income)
- evaluate political interest
- evaluate legal implications and bonuses
- evaluate future trends and profit returns
- evaluate personal gain in manipulation of family members and close friends

Pick.

They do the same with sexuality, and whatnot. Then they advocate completely different things on the way how this works, to others. And when I say advocate, I mean more like, force them to agree. :p

RAM

Great horned ram, filled with life force,
Teach me to a black sheep,
Going my own way, following my inner path,
Not walking in the rut made by the narrow-minded.
Help me to balance harmoniously in unstable places,
Keeping my freedom to be me.

New Beginnings

A Ram totem is a portent of changes and new beginnings. Ram people are often stoic, sensitive and have great perseverance. Curiosity and an active imagination are traits of the Ram totem.

A Ram totem gives stimulation and energy to all mental faculties.
This is an intellectual totem.
Remember that the openings for new beginnings and opportunities can be mere toe-holes,
but if you act quickly, you will secure your spot.
Ram is a moving totem and therefore opportunities must be grabbed quickly with no hesitation.

I choose the bear, purely because my father was going to name me Ursula (little female bear) but my mother disagreed with the name choice.

BEAR
bear.jpg
Deep in slumber, dreams unending,
Wise old bear, patient, strong,
Send me dreams of transformation.
Grant me intuition along
With introspection of my life,
Inner listening, no more strife.

Caution, Healing, Leadership

The power of the Bear totem
is the power of introspection.
The answers to all our questions
lie within us.
Each of us has the capacity to quiet the mind,
enter the silence and know.

Just as the bear hibernates during the winter,
people with a Bear totem will be quieter
during the winter months. But they
must awaken in the spring and seek
whatever opportunities are around them.

When you have a Bear totem,
you are being guided to a leadership role.
You must be fearless in defending your beliefs.

The Bear also encourages you to exercise
your abilities as a natural healer.

Bears are associated with trees which are natural antennas, linking the heavens and the Earth.
Bear also has links to the seven color rays of the Universal Light
as well as Lunar ties, linking the subconscious and the unconscious mind.
It is associated with the Goddess Artemis.

Grasshopper

Uncanny Leaps Forward

The Chinese symbol of good luck and abundance,
Grasshopper gives its totem people the ability to take chances.
To move on hunches and take the leap forward.
Things might not move for them as they do for other people;
progress is not step-by-step, but rather extremely fast.
Trust your own instincts on when to make the leaps.
Trust your inner voice.
It will lead you to great successes.
Don’t be afraid to leap –
and remember that Grasshopper only leaps forward – never backward.

I feel like my totem is a piglet. Laugh away.
Seriously though I've had strong visions of both pigs and dolphins in the past and I kind of think of them as related in terms of their sentient intelligence. There was one time I recall when I suddenly felt filled with love, laughter and a sense of excitement, and I turned around and saw a happy little piglet running towards me across the room. I watched him for a few seconds before he vanished, and I've felt him with me ever since. Maybe this makes me crazy, but I'm rather fond of my little piglet guide. :)

I believe that may be because he has certain religious beliefs that would lead to such a conclusion. His posts generally suggest it. Can't really speak for him though.

As for me, I've already stated that I relate a lot to the wolf. And by the suggestion of many people I've known who believe heavily in this stuff it sounds like I am, indeed, a wolf. Here's the description, but I've had it explained to me before as being "brutally loyal":

WOLF
wolf.jpg
The mournful cries rise in the night.
We are seeking!
Wolves' song greets the Moon so bright.
We are brace and wise!
Sleek, muscles bodies beneath the Moon.
We help turn the wheel of death and rebirth!
By our magic we a send a boon
Of true dreaming!
Intuition, Learning, Spirit
This totem brings faithfulness, inner strength
and intuition when he enters our lives.
But he also brings learning to live with one's self.
The wolf teaches us to learn about our inner self
and to find our inner power and strength.
But to achieve this, we must take risks
and face our deepest fears.
A wolf totem demands sincerity.

This totem demands a lot of us
but gives us much in return;
a spirit helper that is always there to help
and gives us extraordinary powers of endurance.
He reminds us to listen to our inner thoughts
and trust our insights.

They remind us not to waste resources and
to learn how to avoid trouble and confrontations.
People with Wolf totems have the capacity to make quick and firm emotional attachments.
Trust your insights about these attachments. Wolf will guide you.
Take control of your life with Wolf

There's two that I've always related with.

The wolf as shown above.(Seen in several of my dreams)

And the eagle(I liked them a lot in my earlier years and still do. Being able to fly is still something I'd really enjoy)

EAGLE
Spirit, Healing, Creation
eagle.jpg

The eagle is symbol of the zenith.
A great reminder of your own ability to soar to great heights.

Eagles are messengers from heaven and are the embodiment of the spirit of the sun.
Those with an Eagle totem need to have an involvement with creation;
a willingness to experience extremes;
a willingness to use your ability
even if it means getting "scorched" a little as you fly high;
a willingness to seek out your true emotions.
A demanding totem, but one that offers so much reward at the end of the journey.
Its four-toed feet remind you to stay grounded even went soaring high;
Its talons remind you to grasp the things of the earth;
Its sharp beak shows you when to speak, how much, and how strongly.

This totem will show you opportunities and how to ride the winds to your benefit.
Eagle people can live in the realm of the spirit
yet still remain connected and balanced within the realm of the Earth.

You must become much more than you ever dreamed possible.

Those two descriptions really seem to resonate with me.

I didn't even completely look over all of them, but the salamander got my click and I read what it says.

salamander.jpg

SALAMANDER

Assistance with Transformation

The appearance of a Salamander totem heralds transformation,
but offers assistance with this change from somewhere outside of ourselves,
either through an unexpected person or unique resource.
This assistance is temporary and will stay only as long as needed.

Harmony with the environment is very important to people with a Salamander totem.
It is key to a successful transformation –
answers and solutions will be found in the environment around us.

A healthy dose of intuition for you all. :D
