Variations of Metal Music

I've found Bathory recently. And it's adorable! Especially the latest works which evaluated from black metal to viking metal.
 
After Meshuggah, my favorite band is Fear Factory.
The first modern industrial metal band.

Their songs give me chills, partly because of how awesome they are, but also because of the subject matter.

Well I better make my presence here known *Ahem*

Right now I am listening to Make A Change... Kill Yourself - Fooling the Weak. I love DSBM, in fact I love all forms of Black Metal. Angantyr and MAC'KY are too bands I don't listen to enough, it's not so much as they stand out much but they capture me.. its almost hypnotic.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Darkspace, ages ago I listened to a lot of Paysage d'Hiver but didn't listen to much of this but after listening to III a few times its really grown on me.

Other favourites include: Countess, Blut Aus Nord, Mutiilation, Woods of Infinity, Moonblood, Shining etc...

As for Doom Metal I am somewhat newer to it, it took me a while to really get into it but since listening to stuff from Candlemass and Witchfinder General it really caught on. Before that it was only really Nortt that I like so it was mostly new to me. I also didn't listen to much Black Sabbath until then. Lately I've been enjoying Solitude Aetenus.
 
Excellent stuff there. I came across Angantyr due to the split cd with Nasheim. I haven't heard of MAC'KY, but I like all the rest of what you mentioned.

You need to ease into listening metal. It's not really a genre, but rather a way of playing and creating music. A philosophy of a kind, if you will. Metal overlaps with pretty much every other genre, creating the weirdest yet most peculiarly awesome bastard childrend ever.

Also, a lot of bad metal exists. For example: most of the American metal scene (especially the tired metalcore) is rubbish. This is but my humble opinion, please do not crusify me for it.

I think that's enough, or even too much, perhaps. And I am well aware that this is not the heaviest metal out there. You'll just have to deal with it.

I'm trying to introduce my friend to my type of music, he grew up with Metallica and the furtherest hes delved is Cradle of Filth. I showed him Dimmu which he seemed interested in, also some Ensiferum but it didn't seem to be his thing. He loves Dying Fetus though so I might get him some more Death Metal.

Why thank you! I like my taste aswell. I tried to avoid bands you've been posting, as many of them I enjoy, or at least used to enjoy myself. I think Opeth was the only one I couldn't bear to boycot for such an insufficent reason.

Austrian Death Machine must be the funniest thing to have ever existed. :D

good stuff everyone. My brother recently got me into this band. They have an not-metal album that is amazing. It's Celtic folk...or gypsy...something like that. Their normal stuff is a combination of that and Swedish melodic death.

Can't get enough of the new Nile, which surprised me since I didn't care that much for the last two when compared to In Their Darkened Shrines. Behemoth - Evangelion was a surprise as well, since I got bored of The Apostasy very quickly.
