@invisible he doesn't (I hope) he was joking around and I didn't get it.

Currently, as I have insomnia and am kind of a geek, I was reading more about this March for Science.

It's really been a global thing. Here in the UK the science community are struggling to adapt to Brexit, and what that will mean, with so much of the research and work inter connected with EU scientists, finances, CERN etc.

NASA seem to have been spared from the severity of cuts they feared likely, though personally I think it's disappointing that the Europa mission is cancelled. I totally get that there may be better ways to spend the money, but I still think it's a pity.

I think further urgent research on "auto correct" is needed globally. That helpful function, is just about driving me crazy at present.... :)
To begin with NASA gets an unbelievably small percentage of the budget in the first place. Last I heard it was 1 percent of 1 percent. At some point though NASA as a whole decided to align with political posturing. I wonder if anyone else ever questioned why and when they decided to throw their hand into the global warming arena. They gather some data on the atmosphere because they needed in regard to rocket launches and then somehow became a voice concerning climate change? I'd like to believe the cuts to NASA are saying, "You have all this free time to spend on things you were never asked to do? Reevaluate what you are spending time on."
NASA has lost its mind in recent years in other words.
It's been around 100 days of Trump. Initial cuts are exactly that. Perhaps we will see directed spending on other things a bit later. Perhaps money will be spent on creating a moon base or speeding up a mission to Mars. It's too early to tell. I would like to see the Europa mission collow through, it will be sad if it doesn't. It's too early to tell what the plan is right now though. To early to jump to conclusions. Most just use this as a sounding platform to continue to decry Trumps policies when we should all just be thankful we got rid of the worst President in American history AND avoided the train wreck that is Hillary Clinton.

Thank you for telling me what you think of me, but I'm not sure why you think that would mean anything to me.

When you talk about what "one would hope", do you really mean what you, yourself "would" hope? I think this must be the case, since you mention what you, personally, are able to "see". If so, under what circumstances specifically "would" you hope for me to not be a burden? Some sort of ideal situation, perhaps? Some undemocratic situation in which all people will agree with you personally, and the ideology that you personally subscribe to, every single time, and people who disagree will be deprived of their right to vote and be incarcerated and tortured in some sort of gulag, in order that America should really be what it is meant to be?

I'm not interested in doing you any favours, and I don't require your advice on what I should do. Do you require my advice, on what you should do? Please let me know, if you do require that kind of advice.
I dont care if it means something to you or not. I simply used it as a platform to tell you to put me on block. You don't find value in what I say or post, understood. Place me on block. Don't expect me not to respond to rants directed at me though.

That makes absolutely no sense. It is not reasonable to reach conclusions on policy decisions that are enacted because other policy decisions might possibly be enacted later on? That is totally nonsensical. Of course it makes more sense to reach conclusions on policy decisions that have been enacted than potential policy decisions that might possibly later be enacted. LOL.

@Stu
Yes I read all that in the link. You have cut and pasted that information which means you do not understand what I was getting at. I'll be more specific later and point out what I wanted you to see. Just don't have time now and wouldn't want to type it out on the phone anyway.

Have you found time yet, to help us all understand your thoughts better? Or are you too busy spinning your wheels right now?

What is going on in here? Seriously, we all know that @Eventhorizon is a Trump follower no matter what, I just don't understand why everyone is attacking him and changing thread titles and putting up polls to make him feel bad? How does that keep our forum interesting and safe for differing opinions?

I don't like it. I might not agree at all with some people on here but I also like that they post on the forum because it helps me to understand the other side. I can honestly say that reading @Eventhorizon 's posts has opened my eyes to what I didn't understand about the Trump fanaticism. Shutting him up with personal attacks stops the open nature of this forum and shows a great insecurity at hearing opposing ideas. To me, that's shortsighted and exclusionary.

I wish I can agree. I will normally agree, in this situation. However, over time, reading posts such as "I can do anything, I can cure cancer and AIDS", and "I received all A's in my undergraduate degree" and "Torture just works" and "You are a crazy person spouting nonsense on the street" and "People who don't vote Republican should not be allowed to vote" and "I won't respond to what you said because I am asleep" and "I won't respond to you because my screen is too small"... it is not the other side, it is just absolute bullshit.

Agreed but I wouldn't normally hear that side of things in my everyday life and I would rather be aware of what drives people like that because we share a country with them and pass them everyday.

I shall gladly STFU and keep the peace for the sake of what you have explained. However, I will maintain that it is futile to listen to any person who deliberately shows that they will consistently refuse to listen to anything that alternative voices in society will ever say, and that this is what Eventhorizon contributes to this forum, and that this is how he constantly behaves on this forum.

Scientific evidence doesn't imply the adoption of a policy and the rejection of it isn't the rejection of science or scientific evidence. There are tradeoffs to consider.

Science is at risk for turning into a special interest.

How ironic, I actually consider EH the alternative voice lol

Yes, it certainly is ironic that you decide to describe him as an alternative voice, considering that his voice insists that alternative voices should be deprived of votes, and that socialist voices are a burden to society, and that rendition and torture are perfectly reasonable services to the state. lol

Ok let's see if I can upset everyone, in one single post lol. :)

1) I think @Stu raised a good thread here, it's interesting to me to see some of the information he posted.

2) Stu changed the thread title for a joke and EH wasn't bothered by it. I changed it back, but only to try to keep to the topic raised.

3) There's some disagreement about the issues raised. From what I can see EH is generally in favor of spending on science, but isn't happy about climate change research spending, and doesn't want to see science made "political".

4) @invisible isn't in agreement with EH.

Ok.

Stu has set out where the budget changes are, and at least in the case of NASA from what I can see, the cuts are relatively mild, in comparison to other federal budget changes. That's not to say these changes won't impact issues.

"The March for Science" though is global. From what I can see it's scientists and experts in their field, protesting against what they think is political interference in their work. This is by no means confined to America.

I agree with their action where it remains objective. But I'm not marching anywhere, I'm too old lol. I see science spending as a vital investment. But I agree with @Cindy and I think that's largely a fair way to put things.

Whilst I'd love to see the Europa mission reinstated, I don't expect America to fund projects based on my "Star Trek" fascination with space exploration. Lol.

Oh and I think it's fine to disagree on issues, that's not the case in some countries whose scientists will not be protesting anything, or they'd be in jail, or worse.

No offense but as EH is dogged in posting his comments, and to the point of lack of sensitivity to others views and sentiments,- (Think back to pre and post US election for example)... I don't think we should spare a minute or a thought for his feelings. He obviously has thick skin and can choose to post in a less aggressive way, on different topics, or less frequently. It's his choice, and he seems to enjoy an argument. It's a mystery to me, if I had these views I would find somewhere to post them where they would at least be appreciated, rather than riling people day in, day out. This is his choice. I'm not interested in entering the argument beyond saying that though, so no further comments from me.

I thought is was telling that a senior operations manger at NASA, whose budget for the most part, seems to be safe (except for studying the earth), apparently mocked the President by obliquely referring to the "Golden Shower" incident in that Russian Trump blackmail dossier while live stream chatting with him from the Space Station.

I need to apologize to @invisible my words were harsh but I'm my defense brought on by a consistent implying that I have less than average intelligence. My intent was to indicate that while that may be true (though I think otherwise) my intellegence certainly isn't lower than my antagonists . Therefore making fun of it is both ironic and hypocritical. HOWEVER because this is an apology I must state the fact that I do not know what invisibles intellegence level is and for me to suggest otherwise is my own lack of intellegence showing. So I am sorry for that.
I can't say though that if in the future I am poked and prodded long enough for what I find to be ridiculous reasons I wont fall prey to the same folly.

Yes, I honestly believe I could in fact cure cancer and aids if I chose. I can't prove It, never will. I think a reasonable response to that is, "I don't believe you. Your full of it." However questioning other statements based on this one doesn't make a lot of sense. It can't be proven either way. Much like peoples gods can't be proven. I don't discount everything religious people say, I choose what I listen to and what I dont.

Anyway I don't mind many things people choose to do when it comes to disagreements. I simply fully expect and recognize that it's a human condition to attack what you don't understand. People will kill other people so that they can remain in their fantasy world. A fact repeated over and over through human history.
