I'm curious to know what your favourite childhood books and tv shows were?

What kinds of stories were your favourites, did you ever get obsessive about anything?

My favourite childrens stories were by Oska Wild. My favourite was the Happy Prince.

As for TV, I grew up with the ABC. My favourite show of all time was something called The Animals of Farthing Wood. Lots of people thought it was dark and depressing, but I loved the idea of a bunch of animals getting together and protecting each other from humans.

I was animal obsessed. I had a huge collection of fluffy creatures, but I was hard to please. I hated teddies because they didn't look like real animals. if you bought me a stuffed toy, it had to look realistic.

Childhood Favorites

I loved biographies and read the whole series in out little public library--about 100 in all

Horse stories, anything to do with horses, but in particular William Farley's The Black Stallion series and Mary O'Hara's My Friend Flicka, Thunderhead, and The Green Grass of Wyoming.

We didn't have TV since my mother thought it would impede my brothers' interest in reading.

Wow! This is exactly what I would have written! :high5::high5:

And I'd add all of the Nancy Drew stories written back then to it as well.

When I was 9 I got my first pony. From then on we had to go into the Big city library to get books on how to train horses. I read every one they had for years.

Earliest TV shows I liked:

Wind in the Willows
The Muppet Show
Star Trek re-runs
Doctor Who
Danger Mouse
Count Duckula
Monkey Magic

As for books, we used to go through so many of them at home - but I remember pestering my parents to read to me from Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Oh! did you have that beautifully animated wind in the willows too??? I've been looking for that. the bbc one.

I loved that as a kid.

I remember being really devistated to learn that we didn't have badgers, moles and things in Australia. I think that was my greatest disappointment as a child.

When I went to Norway, I also watched all my old favourites in Norwegian, postman pat, fireman sam etc....it was really wierd to hear them all in Norwegian.

Tv: Mr. Wizard's World, Muppet Show, The Far Pavillions (my parents didn't care about ratings)
Books: Complete Works of Hans Christian Andersen, Brothers Grimm, Anne of Green Gables, Jane Eyre, Escape to Last Man Peak, Treasure Island, The Complete Encyclopedia of Handicrafts. I read many many more but can't remember. My aunt would bring me a large carton of books each week.

Favourite Story Types: No discrimination here.

Toys: Not many but these two are special, a pink VW Bug that backfired and a doll that looked just like my mom. I didn't actually play with the doll, just admired it.

Oh I forgot. Oshin! I LOVE Oshin. I should write to the Japanese embassy and see if I could get it back on tv.

haha ika is awesome, her dance reminds me of my skillz at QWOP. And she's pretty, would have certainly had a crush on her as a kid, perfect bone structure.

I didn't watch a lot of TV as a kid.
When I did it was stuff like The Muppets or Tom and Jerry.
We never had cable so I caught what was on PBS and watched what we had on VHS. Here are a few of the movies that really stuck with me.

Ugh, thinking back to all those hours sat infront of the TV gawping at all of the TV shows. I'd spend more than 6 hours a day watching TV back then easily. I'd even play games for 12 hours a day sometimes. o_o

My favourites cartoons were probably um...

Dexter's Laboratory.

The two that come to mind without any thought are Peter Pan (Mary Martin, ohhhh yeah.) and Star Wars.

Too many to count. I'm only posting intros of the most obscure/hilarious ones.

I can't think of the name of the cartoon that first comes to mind: Red flying car and a bunch of superhero people and monkeys (?), go to a secret lair inside of a tree...the monkeys are always slipping on bananas?
