What's your aesthetic?

What's your aesthetic? How did you come to decide on it?

Echoing what others have said...I know what I like and don't like - it's an instantaneous and intuitive thing. I like a blend of contemporary and traditional (with elegance) but can appreciate every kind of style however the fusion is important - not too much of the same theme. Currently preoccupied with interior design so sharing from that perspective. I like exposed wooden beams, brickwork, large windows and doors that frame a picture of the outdoors, window seats to cozy up to or sit crossed legged reading a book or share drinks with a friend(s). Lantern lights that allow you to look up and see the sky and have moments to just wonder. Love textured cushions, lamp shades, large free standing mirrors, faux fur throws, fairy lights, wood burning fireplaces, dual purpose storage spaces, steps throughout the house to add variations in height and to add a bit of quirkiness - but everything has to be practical and livable (not for showy purposes). Ultimately, my surrounding has to be a place of sanctuary and tranquility (to bounce off the chaos going on in my head).

Saw this video a few months back... would opt for less stylized clutter, introduce more personal key items, keep the black and white frames/pictures but incorporate bolder colourful art pieces (art is probably one thing that I would struggle to compromise on). I like the symmetry throughout the house but also like how the picture frames lazily and simply rest against the wall/fireplace. Like the continuity that flows through the house but would prefer to merge and bring in a theme for every room (I give themed names for every room in our house). For me it's all about the feel of the house and bringing the indoor out and vice versa is captured beautifully here.

When it comes to black and white, Alexander Rodchenko's art is pretty cool and speaks to me.

But then, when it comes to pure over-the-topness, Murakami also kinda speaks to me.

I like: industrial, woodsy, but clean and modern touches. I really love soft things and warm tones to make me feel comfy. I love copper too and olive as colors. For dress, I prefer a lot of black. Leather is one of my favorites to wear. I like fur too.

PS: How many vegans am I triggering right now???

the smell of the street after the rain, and at the same time, the smell of fresh pastries, old, wood furniture and books with yellowed pages. cozy sweater and hugs that warm you even on the coldest day of the year. words spoken in a whisper in an empty classroom after a lecture. understanding look. a gentle touch to the wrist, a sweet smile and something else that does not require words. trust, support and a jocular argument about what is best, tea or coffee.

*le sigh*

Just rustic, woodsy feels that I adore. Also the smell of rain, it is so relaxing.
