Need help picking songs.

I know that you guys are well versed in music and the likes, so i am asking help.

I need 2 songs that goes along with my speech that I am doing for at a spiritual retreat. (yes i know * dreads*) So the speech are about losing faith and loneliness. So, I would like some songs suggestions that revolve around that. Preferably songs that are well known to the general public.

Both works because I would like one going into one and then one uplifting one.

It will make a statement if you use it though. People will appreciate it. But if you want a melancholy song, then i'll think of one....

i don't know. All the previous songs i heard at retreat are songs with easy melodies. Maybe an acoustic version?
 
When you believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston comes to mind as quite the faith song. It's not a song I personally like, but I feel inclined to mention it, it might be fitting. Hope this helps :)
