Is this guy for real?

Taking the advice of a couple people (not just the one who I'm sure will also read this at some point) I looked up and read about Herman Cain. And I can only conclude that this guy is a disaster waiting to happen. Here we have people form the East to the West coasts protesting pretty much the same things and this dip goes on to comment about them being "jealous" and "playing the victim card" and then he accuses Unions of helping with it.

http://www.theatlanticwire.com/poli...your-anti-occupy-wall-street-candidate/43497/

There's no mention of him criticizing the Tea Party protestors who were "jealous", or what about all those African-Americans during the 60's who were "playing the victim card"? He's the walking, talking, definition of "hypocrite".

Yep, and this is the kind of person our political system allows to rise to power. Joe Schmoe working in a factory for 20 years, struggling just to pay bills barely has enough time to even voice an opinion, while Mr. Wealthy businessman with ties to muli-billion dollar supporters get media attention.

In light of this the one quote I do agree with is: "To protest Wall Street and the bankers is basically saying you

And worse be those who believed in him? o_O; JUST WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE DO ANYWAY?

Me. I'm sure Lerxst was referring to me in the OP. I am a supporter of Cain. Some of those high dollar folks had their success overnight and many worked very hard to get to where they are. The problem is classifying all the upper class folks into one group ... $200k salary per year or more??? I know many people who make that amount and of every last person I know ... it took YEARS to get to where they are. Is it ludicrous CEOs are making a ridiculous amount of money and getting away with it? Certainly. This was happening within my husband's company ... the upper management making the most money and giving themselves ridiculous bonuses while those in my husband's profession were stuck in a contract negotiation that lasted over 6 years ... one of it was to increase pay (with his company, his profession was the lowest paid in the industry.)

So beat me and throw me to the wolves b/c I'm an INFJ who also happens to be Republican. Herman Cain is huge on Fair Tax (999 plan), in which I also agree. Do I agree with what he said about the Wall Street Protestors? I don't really care at all. Does that make me heartless? No.

Say what you will ... quote me, mention me .. whatever. I don't plan to return to this thread b/c it's plainly obvious everyone will be all over me like a cheap suit. I understand forums and I understand that others get some sick pleasure of backing a badger into a corner. I'm still entitled to my opinions and don't owe ANYONE any explanation.

Isn't this the guy that came up with the 9 9 9 plan? Anyone who thinks an idea is better simply because you can make an interesting number out of it is a nutter in my book.

This guy is in the wrong place, at the wrong time, making the wrong arguments. To refer to possible constituents (Republicans included in these protests) as "jealous" and basically whining about their problems is the last thing a person who wants be elected into an office to represent us should be saying. I could really care less about his politics, from what I saw they were standard political fare.

If the government in this country was equally balanced to include both sides to most issues, then having him take office wouldn't be a bad thing. As it is presently though, he'd just be another spoke in the wheel that's already turning in the wrong direction. The politics here are a good example of Newtonian law; it will take an equal and opposite reaction to change the course we're headed. Considering the last 50 years has been spent under a majority Republican rule, what would be the opposite of that?

Even Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers of this country and the Republican Party knew the value of protests and revolution. Now we have this guy coming along over 200 years later and criticizing the people living up to Jefferson's ideals.

*cough* trying to understand where the other party comes from;

I actually understand success doesn't come overnight, or that success at least offers a certain kind of prestige, a certain kind of entitlement. There's a grain of truth when he said they are playing the victim card, because to those people who achieved success with hard work, blood and sweat and tears abound, it's true. Hey, you can't ask for support if you hadn't earned it. It's more complex than that, when looking at both sides, but at one side, that's the gist of it.

But when those things-- when a sense of entitlement, when to protect that infallible sense of start to hurt a lot of people -- who are often not in the same group of them -- it started becoming ridiculous.

And those who assert in protecting those special rights sounds even more...oi. I won't push the entire GOP and their supporters into those (and I wouldn't have the necessary knowledge to hold my claim either) but some people are....more...questionable than others. Sarah Palin...for instance. This new guy seems to be another one.

And I guess this is the last time I'll enter this thread too. *yawns* I have my limits on being biased.

I could never get that tax plan to do very well in SimCity.

it's the default, not the optimum

"I'm going to literally put no effort into this. that way I have a leg up on my opponents who actually did put effort into their plans and still suck."

I think it is important to remember that all the gop candidates are speaking to the most conservative members of their party.

I also think it is important to remember what they are saying now when (at least one of them) are trying to woo the independents next year in the general election.

It would be interesting economically to see the 9-9-9 plan implemented.

It would also probably be interesting in a bad way.

I dont understand why someone hasnt just developed a model to plug numbers in to see what would happen. If they did I havent found it.

Means they need to play more Sim City. The 4th one was pretty accurate in that area :D

Cain is an idiot. I'm not American and even I can see that much... As for workers receiving low rates, NEWSFLASH - that's what capitalism is. It's designed to not be fair. Logically, for someone to win, someone else has to lose! Workers will always be second class in a capitalist country. Money is created. It's created by selling the same useless product back and forth, because anything that is sold at a higher value than it was bought increases in value.

This one talks about the relative impact based on household income, toward the bottom.
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hiltzik-20111019,0,573520.column

Kleinbard estimates that 9-9-9 would cut the after-tax disposable income of a family with gross wage income of $120,000 by $541 compared with current law; a family with $50,000 in wages would be poorer by $4,848. On the other hand, entrepreneurs and other business owners would have a convenient option to cut their own tax bill, simply by paying themselves not in wages but in dividends, which would be tax-exempt.
Obviously, people who don't pay taxes on income now will be paying more than they do now.
Another problem, I’d like to see someone try to eliminate all loopholes… it’s not going to happen.
And about the effects on the deficit or revenue gained from taxes.

They don’t write out their analyses in a specific way on the websites, though.

I know about loopholes! People I know personally have written themselves down for far less of a salary than they actually make. Why claim $180k when it will only mean paying more in taxes, if you can claim $50k? That extra $130,0000 - "Company" laptop, "company" car, "company" dinners all paid for on a company credit card, etc. etc. etc... Rich people don't actually need to make money in this country in order to be rich.

If somebody finds a way to fix that gaping loophole, then they're onto something. Percentage rates alone won't solve a thing since it's only the lower-income/salary earning citizens that will end up paying the higher costs.

That is about what I had expected, and of course that would likely exacerbate the current government deficit (unless we were to reduce spending, which we are terrible at doing).
