I agree with Skarekrow but also think that we have to be realistic. I have been working in and am trying to find a job in public service, which is something people mainly do if they care. However, I still want the good things that come with a job and am not going to be super passionate about it all the time every day, especially depending on what job I end up with.
The other thing is that the environment makes a huge difference. I have been in environments where everyone is highly motivated and passionate. It is partially a managerial issue, and it also requires teamwork, leadership, and enthusiasm. If you're the only person that cares in a place that doesn't care, that will probably drain you to the point where it is hard to care.
