  • I agree with Skarekrow but also think that we have to be realistic. I have been working in and am trying to find a job in public service, which is something people mainly do if they care. However, I still want the good things that come with a job and am not going to be super passionate about it all the time every day, especially depending on what job I end up with.

The other thing is that the environment makes a huge difference. I have been in environments where everyone is highly motivated and passionate. It is partially a managerial issue, and it also requires teamwork, leadership, and enthusiasm. If you're the only person that cares in a place that doesn't care, that will probably drain you to the point where it is hard to care.
It is definitely interesting, especially to me since so many people have told me that my degree is worthless. I don't know what can be done to fix education. I'm not a teacher or anything. Much of the issue is political. They implement programs that don't work and do not fund ones that do, and oftentimes money is a big issue for schools here since they are financed through local taxes (meaning that rich people get nicer schools- if they aren't using private schools).
About 5 or so. :D Few stupid politicians and the rest... Uhm, not going to tell. But no one from this forum! :D

    You? :D
btw, I posted that long msg because i can't send you anything since it says your PM is too full.
So, I joined the EPIK program which is a pretty big government organization that hires people from all around the world, but if you are specifically teaching English - they only pull candidates from America, England, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. It doesn't matter if you have perfect English, it's a rule they have in their contract - if you do not belong to any of these countries, you can't get in.

How I got in with EPIK was through recruiting agencies, you should try for Korvia Recruiting and or ParkEnglish (Check their website, it explains everything). Korea, sadly, is not a socially progressive and open country and likes to stereotype people who they think have good English - this means you might be rejected if you don't look like you can speak English aka (a white or black person). I'm of Asian descent, so I've gotten a lot of rejections from recruiters who thought I wouldn't get in EPIK, but Korvia and ParkEnglish show no bias and EPIK shows no bias. (I joined ParkEnglish and got in, so)...

The thing about joining EPIK is that you get into public schools which entail about 20-40 students per classroom. The thing about public schools is that they are most likely not to judge your background... So EPIK is good if you want to have a good social life with Korean locals and teachers...

IF you aren't a citizen from any of those countries... You most likely will have to apply for a Hagwon, but this is still difficult.
Hagwons are Private Schools that function AFTER school.
    Why people LIKE Hagwons:
    You get like 6-8 Students
You can sleep in (since it starts in the evening)

    Why people DONT LIKE Hagwons:
Their parents pay for their classes, so if they're not happy with you you're in trouble.
Hagwons can cheat $ out of you, sometimes they forget to pay (as noted by my friend)
Hagwons can fire you at any time.
Hagwons are very stereotypical (It's a business not a school, they want someone who screams *American*)
Nope, it is running fine. Try clearing your cache or restarting your computer.
