Going on a long weekend to Wales starting Friday. I've got the Tintern Abbey hotel booked.

The premise of V day is to buy as much shit as you can. Though I've grown rather attached to my balls so I'm going to celebrate anyway.

No plans. I've never celebrated Valentine's. There was either no one or expressing my love would be exceedingly complicated. It would not be appropriate to send Valentine's greetings to the person currently on my mind. I squandered that opportunity.

My only Valentine's gift ever was a dead rose. He meant well but did it on impulse and seemed unaware that roses need water. Kind of funny actually.

I won't be one of those moping on Valentine's Day. It's just another day ultimately.

For those of you who will celebrate I hope it's great.

not directed at you chaz: yes, buy as much shit as you can, but only if you want to and only if it means something to you and hopefully the recipient. if you can't give something from your heart, don't bother.

I have noticed this "buy as much stuff" phenomenon. Don't understand it. Also the bigger and more expensive stuff makes a better gift for some people. The connections such people make between things and the expression of feeling is very strange but easy to satisfy.

Haha. My Fi values get screwed up when it comes to holidays. I love the idea of them (some of them) and I want to make valentines day special as a) it's the first one I've not been single on and b) Dove deserves it. I hate commercialisation though and feel that if you need a special day of the year to show someone you love them, something's wrong.
 
I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'll be partaking in my local city's annual "Stone and unbearably cute couple" event. It's really an amazing way to let out some frustrations and get rid of those couples that are rarely seen separated from the other, are always being lovey dovey (I just threw up in my pants) in public, and, worser still, have one of those stupid answering machines with the message where the couple alternates on saying each word. I was going to tear down this abandoned building so I could sell engraved bricks at the event to make some extra cash, but the market is awfully saturated this time of year for that sort of thing... I've been tempted to suggest such an event on the forum, but I don't think it'd be able to stay annual for more than a few years :m100:

On a serious note, I'll be suffering working at a chocolate store, selling chocolates to people who will give them as gifts to their loved ones. It makes me sick how much money the store will make any given day the weekend before... Oh well, I'll get paid for the extra hours I put in, so maybe I can finally afford a decent body pillow this year so I won't the detrimental effects of S.A.D. won't hit me as hard as they usually do :m169:

i've never really felt dislike for Valentine's Day even if i may feel a lonely around that time of year. Over the years, if you're single and missing someone it can be a bit uncomfortable and may feel left out but otherwise, i always enjoy the fun products and treats, and the tv movies or films which evoke the spirit of Valentines. And i kinda like the positive vibe, the colors, the overall feeling or pleasure people get from giving someone something romantic on that day. Commercial or not, it's still one of the brighter times of the year celebrated almost everywhere. Of course, it's up the couples to determine whether or not they want to celebrate it and how. if people want to buy something special for their loved ones, then go for it. I'm not saying overspend or consume but why not enjoy it? :)

*dreamy sigh*, but isn't something always wrong? situations are never perfect, and nothing on earth is perfect. if you're single, then you might want someone. if you're not single, you might not be able to spend time with him or her. commercialization of love is not a good idea, but just the fact that you're getting away for the weekend is awesome, no?

i think if there were no holidays lots of people would just keep on going, and not make time for the fun stuff unless they were forced to do it. there's still a lot of work to be done out there, but everyone still needs a break. i don't like needing excuses, but sometimes you just want one. sometimes it's just nice to have.
