President Donald Trump

I actually agree... People should be protesting policies. What's done is done. He is elected. And... What you've got going with drugs in Australia sounds like a dream come true in the US. For many life saving drugs that people must take daily, there is no generic. And the prices keep going up exponentially.

Medicare ('free' medical services and government subsidised medications which make costs of meds $6.25) costs the Australian taxpayer huge - and I mean huge - money. But IMO and for the majority of Australians, we are willing to pay huge amounts in tax so that everybody gets these services and medications.

I think if the anti Trump protestors moved from protesting a person, to protesting policies, you might actually get beneficial changes.
Here in Australia, drug patents can be used to charge royalties, but not to monopolize supply. The result is that you always have the choice of generic brands of drugs, at about 1/3 the price. The major drug companies actually have to conduct brand marketing here, if they want direct market share.

Yeah...about pharmaceutical pricing...see we have lobbyists...and umm...well, nuff said.
We pay the most in the world for healthcare ranked 37th in terms of quality and outcomes.
Medical bills or medical debt is still, even with healthcare expanded to 24 million more people under Obamacare, the number on reason for filing bankruptcy in the US.
Tack on the insane price of college and everything else we can and possibly can be gouged on with our “free market capitalism” gone fucking sour.

If Trump indeed “drains the swamp” of corruption in Congress then we will see actual change take place....until, term limits are in place (which Trump supports I might add I think that is a swell idea), until we have strict rules on lobbying and how much and what can go to whom and for what and there is total transparency as far as who supports what bill, who does it benefit, who does it harm, how much each member of Congress has gotten as either actual money or trips, gifts, etc.

Until we do that, nothing the people do will actually change...the only thing the people can do is vote out the incumbent representatives and senators when election time rolls around.

What else can a full time working person do other than sign petitions and donate to those that support the change they want?
Most don’t have the luxury to go out and donate their actual time or money when they are living paycheck to paycheck as most here in the US are.

So until people get serious about stifling the ever increasing flow of money from the pharmaceutical lobby like Pfizer spending $77.8 million in 2014, and it keeps going up every year...until that happens it’s not about who voted for whom, people have been trying for a long time to crack that shell of their pricing justifications...both republicans and democrats.

Our Medicare Part D, which is the prescription drug coverage most seniors and disabled people have is completely unfunded, it was created during the Bush Jr. years but was never then, and still isn’t now - funded.
A good percentage of seniors cannot afford the price of one or more of their prescription drugs they are prescribed.
Medicare is about the closest thing the US has to a single payer system, though there are many insurance companies that get funded by Medicare as well...so there really is no excuse for people just bending over and taking it other than quit fucking voting the incumbents back in and actually “drain the swamp” like you keep saying you’re going to do but never actually do.
Money talks and bullshit (i.e. the American people) walks.

Lol, yeah, waaaaay better! It will be big! It will be the greatest! I'm going to do great great things! Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Four years pass.

The repeal part the GOP already have down...it’s the actual implementation of how it’s “repealed” (which is looking more and more like an amended Obamacare plan), and if indeed they can replace it without leaving poor pensioners, people with “pre-existing conditions”, or those on disability without coverage, the millions of children covered under the ACA - out to dry, then good for them.
The key word here is - “better”.
Well, that’s a pretty relative term...”better” for whom exactly?
Better for the people, or better for the insurance companies?
I just hope that the Trump supporters who have bitched and moaned about Obamacare (which was a Republican plan passed by Democrats and it’s been a big cry-baby-fest about who gets the credit), hold the people they voted for accountable for what they do or fail to do (not that it was actually a majority btw, the electoral college was put in place to protect slave owners for fucks sake...let the winner be the one with the most votes already...it’s been twice now...once with Gore, and now with Trump...fucking stupid)...and people go out and vote you fucking retards...nothing is going to change if you stick your thumb up your ass, while you bitch and cry about how you “don’t like either one”...you aren’t just voting for those two morons people...there are all kinds of other Representatives and laws and amendments and tax increases/decreases, etc. that effect your every day life you vote on as well.
Quit being an apathetic crybaby shit.

I think we are getting off topic here. This thread was created to discuss the challenges our next President will face. What he can do to mend a severely crippled country etc.... Not to bash him.

@Asa posed a valid question earlier in this thread...O.K. So we have a new President Elect. Are we going to continue the division and keep bashing our heads on the proverbial rock, or can we set aside the nastiness and discuss our thoughts on the issues ? I've found incentive in each of y'all stance.

Did any one see Donald and his family's interview on 60-minutes Sunday evening? Thoughts?
I was quite intrigued by his refusal to speak on his "military" plans. Let's not let them know "how" we're coming only "that" we are coming...there's one point I can get behind, it may be old school...but it works in the long run.

And what's with this rumor that Ryan slipped Trump a pill to calm his ass down? It's rumor just like this that sets folks on edge. I thought the US above propaganda mongering.

Are there any links that have elaborated more On President Trumps "Contract with the American Voter"?

Ps @Eventhorizon , I found nothing. Not one quote of Donald speaking racially...only past history and media implications. My appologies.
This is the first I'd seen this.
Yes, I agree...I think it is good you brought this to awareness...
My thoughts are in italics, the question marks are bc I need more info...thank you @Asa::)

Below is the 100-day plan Trump's campaign released in October, called "Donald Trump's Contract With The American Voter."

What follows is my 100-day action plan to Make America Great Again. It is a contract between myself and the American voter — and begins with restoring honesty, accountability and change to Washington
I agree This needs to be done. I question if the points of the plan after a this need?

Therefore, on the first day of my term of office, my administration will immediately pursue the following six measures to clean up the corruption and special interest collusion in Washington, DC:

* FIRST, propose a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress;
I am understanding that this is why elections are held. Is he referring to a cut off of running for the office? If so, how does that ring with the constitution?

* SECOND, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce through attrition (exempting military, public safety, and public health);
I don't see how this is beneficial to counter act attrition?

* THIRD, a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated;
How will this work I wonder. Who decides what is eliminated? Shouldn't structure be examined and a best practices senario implemented?

* FOURTH, a 5 year-ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service;
This I'm in agreement with.

* FIFTH, a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government;
I thought this was already a no-no?

* SIXTH, a complete ban on foreign lobbyists raising money for American elections.
This I agree with.

On the same day, I will begin taking the following 7 actions to protect American workers:

* FIRST, I will announce my intention to renegotiate NAFTA or withdraw from the deal under Article 2205
I think perhaps the rules of engagement within NAFTA need to be tweaked based on current trends in economic changes...not eliminated all together.

* SECOND, I will announce our withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership
I have to father more facts re the TPP before weighing in here.

* THIRD, I will direct my Secretary of the Treasury to label China a currency manipulator
I'm not sure this wouldn't being repercussions and cause China to demand payment of our loans through them. Do we have the $$$resources to pay them in a lump sum?

* FOURTH, I will direct the Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative to identify all foreign trading abuses that unfairly impact American workers and direct them to use every tool under American and international law to end those abuses immediately
I agree.

* FIFTH, I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars' worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal.
This statement sounds conflicting. Yes...we should tap into our reserves. We have quite a bit really. We should have a structured proceedure for "mining" new resources...while persuing clean energy in wind, water, and solar..."green energies" as a main energy source with resource, e.g. gas, oil and coal as a back up energy source.

* SIXTH, lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward
What is new on this...last I followed it the damage environmentally out weighed the cost of doing it and production quantities?

* SEVENTH, cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs and use the money to fix America's water and environmental infrastructure
I strongly disagree...we need global awareness on climate change! (i could get off on a tangent with this, however I'll behave:p )

Additionally, on the first day, I will take the following five actions to restore security and the constitutional rule of law:

* FIRST, cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama
This is going to create international frucus...evaluate and restructure yes, emulation no.

* SECOND, begin the process of selecting a replacement for Justice Scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list, who will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States
I agree...the chair has been left empty too long as is bc of conservatism. Is there a public list of his choices?

* THIRD, cancel all federal funding to Sanctuary Cities
What the hell is a Sanctuary City? I'll have to go read on this...

* FOURTH, begin removing the more than 2 million criminal illegal immigrants from the country and cancel visas to foreign countries that won't take them back
This puzzles me...if they are criminals why weren't they deported when found guilty? This will trickle into illegal immigrants of ALL kinds I can smell it ...behave Sandie

* FIFTH, suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur. All vetting of people coming into our country will be considered extreme vetting.
Yes...backgrounds should be checked for incoming and home grown questionable characters
We should not disallow some one just bc of the region they're from.
This would be a challenge at best.

Next, I will work with Congress to introduce the following broader legislative measures and fight for their passage within the first 100 days of my Administration:

  1. Middle Class Tax Relief And Simplification Act. An economic plan designed to grow the economy 4% per year and create at least 25 million new jobs through massive tax reduction and simplification, in combination with trade reform, regulatory relief, and lifting the restrictions on American energy. The largest tax reductions are for the middle class. A middle-class family with 2 children will get a 35% tax cut. The current number of brackets will be reduced from 7 to 3, and tax forms will likewise be greatly simplified. The business rate will be lowered from 35 to 15 percent, and the trillions of dollars of American corporate money overseas can now be brought back at a 10 percent rate. What about couple's with no children and folks choosing to remain single? Won't they get tax breaks?
  2. End The Offshoring Act. Establishes tariffs to discourage companies from laying off their workers in order to relocate in other countries and ship their products back to the U.S. tax-free. I agree.
  3. American Energy & Infrastructure Act. Leverages public-private partnerships, and private investments through tax incentives, to spur $1 trillion in infrastructure investment over 10 years. It is revenue neutral.
  4. I need more info of how?
  5. School Choice And Education Opportunity Act. Redirects education dollars to give parents the right to send their kid to the public, private, charter, magnet, religious or home school of their choice. Ends common core, brings education supervision to local communities. It expands vocational and technical education, and make 2 and 4-year college more affordable.agreed...but how?
  6. Repeal and Replace Obamacare Act. Fully repeals Obamacare and replaces it with Health Savings Accounts, the ability to purchase health insurance across state lines, and lets states manage Medicaid funds. Reforms will also include cutting the red tape at the FDA: there are over 4,000 drugs awaiting approval, and we especially want to speed the approval of life-saving medications. Need more info
  7. Again...how does he plan to do this?
  8. Affordable Childcare and Eldercare Act. Allows Americans to deduct childcare and elder care from their taxes, incentivizes employers to provide on-side childcare services, and creates tax-free Dependent Care Savings Accounts for both young and elderly dependents, with matching contributions for low-income families. This makes sense. Again does he detail it elsewhere?
  9. End Illegal Immigration Act Fully-funds the construction of a wall on our southern border with the full understanding that the country Mexico will be reimbursing the United States for the full cost of such wall; establishes a 2-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering the U.S. after a previous deportation, and a 5-year mandatory minimum for illegally re-entering for those with felony convictions, multiple misdemeanor convictions or two or more prior deportations; also reforms visa rules to enhance penalties for overstaying and to ensure open jobs are offered to American workers first. Aww hell...sounds like filling up our prisions with people seeking assylum.
  10. Restructuring visa rules yes...but will it eliminate scholastic revenue?...and What about the folks here going to school who decide to change or extend their planned education?
  11. Restoring Community Safety Act. Reduces surging crime, drugs and violence by creating a Task Force On Violent Crime and increasing funding for programs that train and assist local police; increases resources for federal law enforcement agencies and federal prosecutors to dismantle criminal gangs and put violent offenders behind bars.Yes...this sounds like Guliani's plan in NYC
  12. Restoring National Security Act. Rebuilds our military by eliminating the defense sequester and expanding military investment; provides Veterans with the ability to receive public VA treatment or attend the private doctor of their choice; protects our vital infrastructure from cyber-attack; establishes new screening procedures for immigration to ensure those who are admitted to our country support our people and our values I agree
  13. Clean up Corruption in Washington Act. Enacts new ethics reforms to Drain the Swamp and reduce the corrupting influence of special interests on our politics.
  14. Agreed...I want to know more on this.

As I have been saying....
Ive always known he could not be called Republican or Democrat. In the instance of the Clintons though its a simple matter of the law. Are they good people? Maybe because good can be relative. IE I stole food to give to the starving. But if so they still have no concern for the law.

Wyote, thank you so much for posting this. Hopefully everyone will watch this EVERYDAY FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS. Because:

THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

And we as Americans should not lose sight of this fact. Even if you are not directly affected by the changes, think of those who will be. We need each other right now.

We can't let this go and accept this as the way things will be now. We need to be on point and ready to fight for each other when the time comes. Because it will come, it's just a matter of time.
