I once saw a homeless man in the city and everyone was walking past him, scoffing at him, looking down on him, laughing, I stood at a distance and observed him and if anyone was going to help this man, no one did.
He literally began to cry so I walked into the McDonalds he was sitting next to and went and bought him a full meal, a bottle of water and gave him $10 for more food later.

This man was so thankful, and that's all I wanted in return.

Nice. Perhaps that act will have far ranging implications.

I wonder, not that I would do this myself, do you think there is any benefit to having a conversation with this person? Asking them how they found themselves to be where they are? Is there anything that they think can help them get past their situation etc...

It may be that the person is unable to cope with society, if so there's not a lot in place to help him in the long term.
