I'm curious to know people's views/opinions/positions/etc. about this - it has been a major international discussion for a very long time.

Questions:

Should there be a Palestinian State?

Why?

Are there any ancillary issues that need to be discussed/mentioned?
 
A Palestinian state that cannot accept Israel as a state, as I see it, is one of the biggest political jokes of modern times. Mind you, it is a sad state of affairs and not funny.
 
I say yes, because I think otherwise the insanity of the palestinians will permit the Israelis to carry out some sort of genocidal attack on them and complete their own personal journey which they've been on since WW2, I'd really hope the world wouldnt sit and allow that to happen.

The problem isnt should there be a two state solution but how, to me its a logistical problem, who is going to take on the Israelis? Who is going to rebuild the Palestinians from what they are now? It'll take more than resources.

You know I dont accept Israel as a state, however, that changes very little, it is there. Now is that what we're talking about, because I think that can be dealt with more or less, if we're talking about the mandating of armed struggle or war well that's a different matter.

Hamas has basically sworn to kill all Jews. It is their agenda. Abbas has now made a pact with them. For the world to help them establish a state on those principles is the real problem.

Anyone wishing to better understand the situation should listen to Netanyahu's speech to our government days ago. It sums up the situation, the problems, and the solutions. Israel pulled back from south of the Litani in Lebanon and out of Gaza, only to get 60,000 rockets fired into their country from those same locations.

Egypt has opened the Rafah crossing, and the Palestinians needed that. Israel does not want a militarized Gaza run by a group whose creed is about the destruction of the Jews. They are only trying to protect their own people from militant actions America would not put up with should we be faced with it. Let the smuggling of materials and training specialists begin. God help us all.

I have a lot of interest and opinion on the matter. One of the only reasons Obama helped force Mubarak out was to put more pressure on Israel through Egypt. Obama will never force himself on the Jewish state. Obama already almost caused Abdullah to have a stroke, costing America a 69 billion dollar military contract from Saudi Arabia. Gadaffi has made a truce with the rebels, but Obama is sending bunker buster bombs to Italy to try and kill Gadaffi so he can further have his way in the area. Yet, he allows Assad to do as he would in Syria for Russian help all of a sudden.

There is much going on behind the scenes Obama is trying to force. It is not his world to call the shots, yet the UN and the EU(and NATO) are playing along with him. There is much being destroyed that will show up floating in the water later. It will stink like the smell of dead fish rotting in the sun, and who will be left to clean up the mess and get rid of the stench?

Want to help form and accept a Palestinian state? Why go to such extremes to change so much else in the process unless you have other things on your agenda even your very own Republicans and Democrats disagree with? I would never try to dismantle a world so I could reshape it the way I wanted it. People cannot see or understand what is being done, so they naturally have little opinion regarding the matter. There is far too much at stake to allow this man to continue on his course. The Israelis will be the next to turn away from America if Obama is not put in his place as Ahmadenijad was. Our country is being destroyed from the inside without firing a shot.

Well, I wonder why they would do that? It couldn't be that they just stole the land from the Palestinians after WW2 and forced them to lie elsewhere because the Torah said so.

No, it must have happened because Islam is inherently evil.

You may not believe this but realize that much of the pro Isreali movement does.
 
I see creating a new Palestinian state seperate from Israel as most likely creating more problems than it solves. It deepens divisions, creates further territorial disputes, and leaves one or both states mush harder to defend.


I would mush rather reform Israel than create a new, most likely highly corrupt, state. I believe they need a new, this time codified constitution. I want the same basic system for them as I'd like for us, but think the need is even more urgent there. I would do away with Party List Proportional representation, as this exacerbates divisions, especially when parties have ethnic and religious affiliations. I would require the electorate to evaluate individual candidates rather than partisan groups, and use either Range Voting or Reweighted Range Voting (its non-partisan proportional representation variant for multimember districts). This would allow a much wider range of candidates to have a viable change of expressing their views or even winning than in a system with partisan primaries, but also strongly favors moderate consensus builders. I would have an open immigration policy for anyone (save those who are known threats due to demonstrable criminal or terrorist ties, or who carry dangerous infectious diseases), rather than giving a right or return to any religious/ethnic group.
 
It use to be that if wanted to be a sovereign nation you set up shop some where and dared the rest of the world to move you. Then you either got kicked around and held the land or got kicked around and lost it.

I came back this AM to delete my post, as I felt almost like I said too much last night. I do wish to ask forgiveness for my ranting. Sometimes keeping things all bottled up inside can cause too many problems.

Israel could have destroyed all the Palestinians so many times, but that is not what they are seeking. They, too, want peace and stability in the region more than anyone else. After all, they would like to go to sleep at night not worrying about a Grad crashing through a school or a bus getting blown up on the way to work. They have more to win with peace than with war.

Please listen to Netanyahu's speech, if you only will take the time. It explains more than most could possibly imagine.

VH; I, too, think there are more viable solutions than asking it all from Israel. Hamas has to change their attitude and charter, or someone needs to change their leadership. Genocide is not the answer to anything. More local countries should offer more.

Unfortunately, the Palestinians are doing a good job of dehumanizing themselves. Until as a people they begin to behave in a more civil manner, it is going to be difficult for the West to see them as more than crazy people who go on screaming parades, blow themselves up, and throw rocks at tanks. This means discouraging and denouncing those sorts of actions, and making a concerted effort to come up with a rational solution based on the facts of their current situation.

The worst part about this situation is that Israel has been the kindest to the Palestinians. The Arab world has basically done nothing other than give them high fives.
 
But do we see them as crazy people because that is the way that the media portrays them? I don't agree with violence, but there is a context.. a provocation... and there is a reason why they are responding the way that they are. I don't think Israel is blameless and they haven't been kind to them.
 
I recall Yasser Arafat speaking out of both sides of his mouth, with a forked tongue, and being pinned in Ramallah by tanks. The shoe on the other foot would have seen his demise. The Israelis have been nothing but tolerant over the decades considering what they have had thrown at them. Mind you, they have had to react to certain situations with force. That force has been bridled, showing much restraint. They actually want peace with the Palestinians, but without the guerilla warfare that some want to come along for the ride with it.

I have personally never dehumanized Palestinians or, for that matter, any other group of people; nor do I see them as crazy. It is not becoming. I have been misunderstood. I have grown accustomed to that, though. It still does not make me comfortable to be misunderstood. It is rather disturbing at times, though most likely my own doing by my lack of skilled communication of thoughts and feelings.

If I put a link for that speech would anyone be interested in listening to and watching it? The man has to live with the situation every day. He knows and fully understands what needs to be done better than most anyone else. Opinions with knowledge make such greater conversations.
