Intel’s Israel Team Is At The Forefront Of 5G Tech That Will Revolutionize How We Communicate

American chip giant Intel has long admitted that it has faltered in the past on the mobile revolution, focusing full-steam on central processing units (CPUs) for personal computers (PCs) and servers, and cornering some 80 percent of that market to build a company now bringing in annual revenue of some $62 billion.
Intel’s attempts to gain traction in the smartphone sphere have been lackluster at best, but it has had success with mobile modems. This is all set to change with the company’s transition to a data-centric entity and its harnessing of the nascent 5G technology, the fifth generation of wireless connectivity.
And Intel’s Israel operations are playing a key role in the overhaul.
What is 5G?
5G is set to transform the way we all use the internet by also revolutionizing the current network infrastructure. With greater bandwidth, more powerful processing capabilities and minimal delay (latency), the new generation of wireless connectivity will be able to support unprecedented communications and the transfer of massive amounts of data, according to Intel.
Compared with the current network speed, 4G LTE, 5G is set to be 30 to 50 times faster and will have a dramatic impact across industries and applications.
Not only are movies and games set to download in seconds, sans buffering, Elkana Ben Sinai, VP of the Intel Communications and Devices Group (iCDG) and General Manager of the Wireless Product Group (WPG), tells NoCamels that the technology will herald a “new era for autonomous cars, smart manufacturing, agriculture, industrial facilities, healthcare, retail, military industries and so on.”
During an interview at Intel’s offices in Haifa, Ben Sinai explains what’s ahead.
“5G is a revolution on all levels: devices, cloud operators, service providers, and content providers. It means a whole new network and new infrastructure. There will be a sharp increase in the number of people connected and everything will be connected and able to communicate,” says Ben Sinai, who joined Intel in 2010 after it acquired chip company Comsys, of which he was CEO.
“Your fridge will be able to know that you are running low on milk, for example. Drone deliveries will be everywhere, the use of autonomous cars will lead to zero road accidents, artificial intelligence capabilities will be able to search databases in seconds, medical surgeries will be more precise and reliable, the world itself will be way more robotized,” Ben Sinai adds.
The involvement of advanced robots in our lives is currently limited to Apple’s Siri, [Amazon’s] Alexa, and the like, he explains, but we will soon be able to perform more important tasks while benefiting from more valuable data.
“Intel wants to serve this market. Its vision is to be a data-centric company, dealing best with data through all its stages: collection, transmission, processing storage. It wants to make use of huge computing, storage, and its artificial intelligence and communication capabilities – very few companies have these combinations,” he tells NoCamels. “And 5G is the leading technology to implement the ‘transmission’ part of this vision.”
For Intel, this means that its innovative products, already ubiquitous, will be even more so.
“New hardware will basically be in all aspects: data collection by new sensors (e.g. Mobileye), communication (e.g 5G), computing (e.g artificial intelligence),” Ben Sinai says. An ambitious move into the mobile phone market is also in the offing, as it is “certainly an ingredient” in Intel’s wider vision.
And Intel Israel, he says, is a “very important design center of Intel Corporation, leading some of its strategic developments in the area of computing, communication, security and more.”
Automotive and cybersecurity
Intel also has another edge. Last year, the company acquired the Jerusalem-based Mobileye, a developer of cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies, for a whopping $15.3 billion. Mobileye is considered a leader in advanced driver assistance systems – including pedestrian detection, collision warning – aimed to prevent road collisions.
The acquisition marked Intel’s entry into the vibrant automotive market, and the industry plays a central role in Intel’s vision for the future.
“Autonomous cars will need constant, fast communications, they will move in sync on their own network,” Ben Sinai says, envisioning a future with zero accidents, a better environment due to expected reduced car ownership, and a transformed transportation industry which he says will have to adjust to accommodate self-driving cars.
As for the potential dangers posed by mass connectivity, Intel, he says, “is always thinking about security, and established a division at the Intel management level dedicated to looking for breaches and vulnerabilities.”
Ben Sinai also points to the collaboration on cybersecurity, and the common effort to find solutions. Last month, Intel announced that it will partner with two Israeli cybersecurity startups for data protection.
Security is a key factor in the industry and will provide another competitive edge for companies implementing protections at all levels, he explains.
Intel and Facebook
Intel’s Israel team has also been working on another unique project – helping Facebook connect the world to the internet.
Facebook’s ambitious plan was first articulated in a 2013 letter posted online by founder Mark Zuckerberg. It has since faltered, but in 2016, the social media giant came up with Terragraph, a plan based on the same idea but with more developed technology. It is aimed at dense, urban areas.
The project involves mounted, Internet-beaming nodes using the 60 GHz band, both free and available in most parts of the world, for a next-generation connection – WiGig.
Named after the Wireless Gigabit Alliance, a trade alliance formed in 2013 to promote the adoption of gigabit wireless tech, WiGig “uses beamforming to send a finely directed signal between devices at a distance of up to 10 meters,” according to 5G.co.uk. “This focused broadcast serves to eliminate any interference from nearby devices, as well as to maintain high performance even in areas where the 60 GHz spectrum might be in heavy use.”
Over a year ago, Facebook turned to Intel, and other partners, for collaboration on the project. Intel’s WiGig team in Israel, under Ben Sinai’s supervision, got to work on a long-range modem, based on 60GHz-WiGig, while providing the network processor and developing the drivers and software to enable the high-speed links.
The WiGig team tells NoCamels that the collaborative solution is a good alternative to the often cost-prohibitive and time-consuming fiber cables option.
Another Israeli team came on board as an OEM (original equipment manufacturer). “Intel has been actively working with leading companies in the industry to introduce cutting-edge wireless solutions to support the next generation of network infrastructure,” said Caroline Chan, vice president of Intel’s Data Center Group and general manager of 5G Infrastructure Division, Network Platforms Group, said earlier this year.
Intel has test sites in Petah Tikva, while Facebook runs one in San Jose. Commercial services may begin as early as next year, they say.
Intel in Israel
Intel employs about 11,000 people in Israel and another 1,000 from Mobileye. It is considered the largest employer in the tech sector.
Earlier this year, Intel submitted plans to nearly double its manufacturing operations in the country, and invest some $5 billion over the next two years. The details of the plans and timetables have not yet been disclosed.
Intel says that since it began operations in Israel, its investment in the Israeli economy has totaled $35 billion.

Even though we covered insurance companies not wanting to do business with telecoms before – this information seems worth sharing again because of the current frenzied pace to install countless small cell towers in front of homes, etc.– above ground and below – in the U.S due to the insane “Race for 5G.”
5G being forced on Americans by elected officials, federal employees and “Big Wireless” despite knowing that this is harmful biologically and environmentally and that many are unaware and/or opposed to this.

How The Government Uses Its Giant Facial Recognition Database

In July 1996, flight TWA 800 exploded in mid-air, 12 minutes after taking off from JFK International Airport in New York. All 230 passengers on board were killed.
It would be four years before an investigation concluded the likely cause of the explosion was a short circuit in the plane’s fuel tank.
But at the time, President Clinton felt the overwhelming need to do something.
People suspected terrorism. So Clinton issued new airport security rules.
From then on, identification was required to board an airplane.
Before that, you just needed a ticket.
After the attacks of September 11, 2001, airport security escalated.
The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) and DHS (Department of Homeland Security) were born.
Screening procedures intensified. Agents could now feel you up and down. Then came naked body scanners and the Real ID requirement.
Real ID standards were part of the post-9/11 security hysteria. But they are just now coming into full effect.
The federal guidelines require states to issue IDs that meet certain federal standards, or else the ID cannot be used for flying.
One of these standards is that the photo on the ID has to work with facial recognition systems.
CBP (Customs and Border Protection) has now completed a pilot program for using biometric data for boarding flights exiting the country. Biometric data includes unique identity markers like fingerprints, iris scans, and facial recognition.
The DHS audited the pilot program, and found that it was a success. They caught 1,300 people who had overstayed their visas.
Wait, what? I thought this was supposed to be about national security?
But that’s not what you get from the propaganda piece on the CBP’s website.
One of their “success stories” involved a Polish couple leaving the country. They were using fake documents. But the biometric data revealed they were ordered deported and hadn’t left.
Now they were leaving. So the CBP let them leave. But first they warned them, with official documentation, that if they returned again they could face felony charges.
How is that a success story, worth the cost of tens of billions of dollars?
CBP makes it seem as if the entire purpose of this technology is to find foreigners who are entering (or living) in the country illegally.
Except that it isn’t just the foreigners that are being targeted.
The CBP, TSA, and DHS are building facial recognition databases for everyone– US citizens included.
These pilot programs scoop up whatever official pictures the US government has of you.
This includes passport photos, ID photos, and photos taken upon reentering the United States after international travel.
Delta Airlines has even started testing a new program that scans your face prior to boarding your flight and matches it against this government database.

The way I see it is that we're basically just creating our replacements in the evolutionary ladder. We haven't had a true competitor since our inception, and if AI is able to improve upon our flaws as a species, then perhaps they should rightfully take our place. Yeah, perhaps not the most popular opinion ever but I'd like to think that their existence is a necessity in the grand cosmological "game".

Officials may say it was a bad flu with strange features that hit Sacramento residents, and that vaccines could not prevent it. They may even blame foreign actors. But the real and very simple explanation will be that Verizon’s 5G roll-out in California’s capital has severe public health repercussions, just as predicted by international scientists and physicians. These reactions to 5th generation pulsed microwave radiation frequencies will also be experienced in Los Angeles, Houston, and Indianapolis. They are all test subjects in the first large-scale 5G experiments on U.S. populations without full disclosure or express consent.
Pogo said, “We have met the enemy…” This 5G experiment is being conducted by the FCC, the wireless industry and the city of Sacramento, despite California Department of Public Health and the National Institutes of Health research showing present exposures are fraught with risk. State legislators exempted fire stations from 4G/5G “small cell” infrastructure last year in Senate Bill 649 due to the health effects, and granted ADA accommodation at hearings for those disabled by electromagnetic sensitivities. City officials are ignoring the huge public costs from this dense roll-out, despite ample evidence.
All living beings are electromagnetic beings, with delicate EMF signals regulating bodily systems. International independent research and reports predict new or worsened health problems likely for the public, their pets, animals, wildlife, and insects, including:
abnormal heart rhythms, cardiac arrest, fainting, strokes, cancers and tumors, seizures, headaches and migraines, nausea and vomiting, nosebleeds and ear bleeding, insomnia and sleep abnormalities, rashes, burns, or other skin reactions, eye problems, dizziness, flu-like symptoms, ear, eye, or heart pain, edema, hearing ringing or buzzing, memory and concentration problems, high blood pressure, difficulty regulating blood sugar, spontaneous abortions, higher than normal rates of birth defects, mental health problems including depression, anxiety, agitation, and suicidal thoughts, muscle weakness and loss of energy (due to mitochondrial dysfunction), paralysis, joint pain, urinary urgency, and electromagnetic sensitivity (intolerance to microwave or EMF emissions — recognized by the U.S. Access Board in 2002).
These reactions are correlated to microwave radiation exposure — cell towers, Wi-Fi, wireless Smart Meters, and wireless devices. The NIH National Toxicology Program research released and peer-reviewed this year further corroborates that this radiation is a carcinogen.
Invisible reactions found by researchers include: breaches in the blood-brain barrier, DNA damage, sperm damage, red blood cell clumping, oxidative stress, free radical production, and interference with voltage-gated calcium channels which are fundamental to health.
Environmental impacts to insects, including bees, and to trees, plants, and birds are clearly demonstrated in the scientific literature. Also, chitin, the major component of the outer covering of insects, may be severely damaged by microwave radiation. Bees, butterflies and other insects also have chitin in their wings. 5G could cause insect populations to vanish.
Severe unintended economic costs from a 5G roll-out due to health and environmental effects will include increased disability, stresses on health, social service, and welfare programs, loss in tourism, agricultural impacts, in addition to property devaluation and job loss from 5G automation. This roll-out will likely cost Sacramento millions of dollars and injure thousands of people.
This Trojan horse has already entered Sacramento and the other test cities, moving into neighborhoods next to homes, schools, and workplaces. Verizon may slowly ramp up its power to avoid highly dramatic impacts which would create controversy. Over 200 scientists and physicians have appealed to the EU and UN to stop 5G. what they would offer people though is access to an augmented reality. So google glass (roots in the pentagon) is already offering a basic wearable version of this but the plan is to create implantables so that what you perceive to be reality could be altered and 'augmented'
This would then lead to people living in a technologically based sub reality
'cool' some people would say but i would suggest these people are naive and don't really know their history or the dynamics at play

I know liberals want to claim that the immigration issue is all about 'race' but its mainly about employment
so all trade unionists know that what the workers have is their labour. This is the only bargainning chip they have to try and negotiate a better deal from the capitalist bosses. If they threaten to collectively withdraw their labour they are able sometimes to pressure the bosses into giving them a better deal.
However the bosses then look elsewhere to find even more desperate workers who will agree to work and then they ship those workers in. this is called 'scab labour' and globalisation is about big corporate powers sidestepping western workers who have managed to organise into trade unions and instead employing poorer people abroad either by taking their businesses offshore or by bringing migrant workers into the west. This then undercuts western workers causing wages to lower
But now robots and AI and algorithms are threatening to undercut EVERYONE including migrant workers. There are already robots that pick fruit that will undercut migrant farm workers and they are building robots to carry out construction jobs. Autonomous cars will see anyone who makes a living behind a wheel lose their job from taxi drivers to long haul lorry drivers to train drivers etc etc. Many taxi drivers are immigrants and they will all lose their jobs. Its not just big corporations investing in that tech it is governments too.
