[INFJ] Why does this site see such little traffic? Usually anything I say is forgotten :)

This forum was way better back in May. That was the real golden age.

You mean it was much better before I returned here in June ?? lol. It probably was, but I'm trying dang..

. I've noticed that threads are growing much faster lately too, so much so that I can't really keep up.

Since muir has been brought up (again), I can't speak for the staff decision to ban since that was before I joined staff, but I know it was not an easy decision to make and followed many warnings and infractions. It is true that he has been banned from other forums as well. He joined a different MBTI forum just this year, and was banned after only 1 month, whereas he lasted for years here. His ban has also been discussed to death here already. I had some good interactions with the guy, but at this point we are long past moving forward.

This forum is also far less regulated and far more under-staffed than the vast majority of other forums I've frequented. Every single warning or infraction is decided upon as a group, and then one member of staff volunteers to give the infraction, after the group has decided. Typically who gives this gets rotated so it's not just one member of staff giving out the majority of infractions, since when members get infracted they can mistakenly think it's personal even though staff acts as a group, and take it out on the member of staff giving the infraction. That way the flak gets more evenly distributed amongst staff (one member once got so angry at the staff member who gave his infraction, he posted about a dozen times on her blog screaming at her in caps lock, cussing, spewing insults and vitriol, and then also posted a few similar things on her profile). Such things can make it difficult to stay on staff, which is one of the reasons why so many have stepped down and retired. I respect the staff for what they do, and I've seen them on many occasions not only act as staff, but as great human beings to members when they were in a crisis and needed help and support.

There are plenty of amazing members here, and amazing members who have left. I respect both the decision to stay, and the decision to leave, as life is complicated and as I've stated elsewhere on here recently, can take us in a different direction. I am still getting to know the recent influx of new members, but so far they have been wonderful, and I am glad that I've been able to get to know them.

I just want to confirm what @hush has posted. This is a lively forum with some great members, numerous posts and very varied discussions and lively debate. I can also say I really liked Muir but he was not banned lightly. I'm sad, but I think he effectively banned himself. No member can be allowed to just repeatedly ignore the forums rules, and damage the experience of the place for others. I'll check with the admins to see if there is anyway we can relay some stats to members, but every time I log on, there seem to be a ton more posts. I always think in the end people 'vote with their feet' and if there were no interactions or good posts, people would be going else where on the intawebs..

I can't see it anymore of course, but Xenforo has a thingamawhat in the admin control panel where it actually graphs forum traffic, and you can use it to chart other things too, like number of new member registrations, profile posts, likes being given, etc. Last I was able to check, all of that, including traffic, has consistently been on the rise since the switch to Xenforo in July, which is the opposite of how traffic historically and naturally tends to go here; usually it's busiest during the summer, and slower after the season is over. I've noticed that threads are growing much faster lately too, so much so that I can't really keep up.

How do we access the Xenforo?

On one hand muir was just spamming threads, on the other if you didn't like it you could just personally block him. I suppose it is humanitys natural instinct to appeal to the white bearded admin in the sky to save you from having to hit that block button yourself.

If memory serves Dragon has given me all my many infractions (which I can't find at the moment) so when did the round robin policy start? Im pretty sure dragon has a personal grudge against me.

There are many amazing members, so I agree.

I assure you what @hush has said is absolutely true. I mentioned muir before becoming a mod, and I was invited to go through all the details myself. It was obvious to me very quickly that things were done in the fairest way possible.

You are quite correct people can use the block function if they wish. I have to add that i have full confidence in @Dragon and all the other staff I've seen here. I think this is a very open diverse forum, which is what makes it so good to me. To me it's largely 'self governing' if members have issues or want the rules examined they can make their case freely.

There are some very clever and funny members here, which I enjoy, even if I am often on the wrong end of the wit.

:m158:

Xenforo is the forum software we're currently using, as opposed to vBulletin, which is what we used to use before Deathjam made the switch. It's not something one accesses. I was referring to the Administrator Control Panel.

I have to add that i have full confidence in @Dragon

Same here, I find her to be an awesome, fair-minded, non-grudgy lass.

re: interesting and "interesting" members and bans and regulations;

....One of the older members here, and in my perception, most of those who are genuinely interesting, insightful, or even edgy (as opposed to looking for shock value) simply...disappeared.

(And I'm sure a few people who are around in 2009-2011 know just how......................................delightful, the forum can be. That Confess Something Non-Anonymously started as a fountain of DRAMA)

Which I took as a sign of either losing interest, or dealing with life. I know a few members in Facebook who are actively dealing with their own life as well.
Of course; I don't follow the group politics much here-- there might be some of those who left due to managerial issues and regulations and stuff.

But personally, I never found the regulations here as too much or too draconian.

Hi again. Hello old friends :)

@dang, thanks for taking the time to reply.
FYI, wall of text posts are not easy to read. Use some line breaks, man!

Post however you like, but the wall of text is not an inspiring format to read.

Anyway, Idk why you accused me of being passive-aggressive. Im sharing my personal experience and assessment of the problem.

I think the forum should have mods in place to delete porn posts, spam, and to guard against predators.

In my opinion, this place was way better in the past.
I could be wrong, but I think the excessive bans Ive witnessed in the past are a big reason why this forum is not active.

Banning people from their community is an extreme action. Bans should be reserved only for serious violations.

What was your reason for banning @muir? DM me if you want to respond in private.

Line breaks are for losers.

In the past years I was a fairly active member, I really cared about this place.
I liked the idea of the forum, I appreciated interaction with other like minded people.

I was invested enough to actually meet some members IRL, and it was great!

I chose to detach and disengage from the forum for various reasons. Mostly, I realized posting on this forum was not the wisest use of my time. I can too easily spend too much time writing, editing, perfecting, and deleting my posts. This is why I generally prefer to interact in real time.

There are some wonderful people here that I do miss, but leaving was a good thing for me.
I'd like to keep in touch, but I need to keep my focus on activity that will make a positive difference in my life, and in my ability to serve others.

I'm still interested in what this community could become, beyond what it currently is limited to.

They're not. You've just revealed top secret Admin information.

Jokes. I see it.
