What Are You Listening To Right Now (Part 15)

My Bloody Valentine – “When You Sleep”

Steely Dan – “Peg”

is it the song, arrangement, performance, recording,
the groove, Michael’s helium, or the math? yes! ❤️

The Crusaders – “Street Life”

Keane – “Bedshaped”

If you know me at all, you understand a little bit why I think
this song and recording and arrangement and performance
are so achingly gorgeous. ❤️

Anthemic chorus, self-doubt, dynamics, longing...it’s all there. :)

And to be fair, I’m a sucker for a Wurly or Rhodes with
post-processing playing the right chord progression with
key changes. I was a child in the 1970s, after all. :p

Eurythmics – “There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)”

What a songbird to sing such a melody!

Eurythmics – “Love Is a Stranger”

My favorite song about love, ever. ❤️

“it’s guilt-edged, glamorous, and sleek by design
you know it’s jealous by nature, false and unkind
it’s hard and restrained and it’s totally cool
it touches and it teases as you stumble in the debris...”

1982, pure synthesizers with that motorik pulse.

At the time, it was (for me) among the very best
coming out of England. 40 years later and my
feelings have not changed.

Burial – “Street Halo” ep

Sigur Rós – “Svefn-g-englar”

Agnes Obel – “Fuel to Fire”

iamamiwhoami – “u-2”

I love the timbres and mix...it’s just beautiful when loud enough
to cause trouble...the pulse, to feel it in your body, the thumpa
is very sensual...and pretty, brassy synthesizer to boot...from a
production standpoint, it is just a gem...so delicate, and so very raw.

Plus, it has the kind of energy my brain likes, stim junkie that I am.
