I've always been fascinated by the power that music has to elicit an emotion. Energizing, happy, make you want to dance like Snoopy songs, we've all most likely felt that at some point. I get that aspect of music, its other ones, the songs that make tears squirt out of your head like an elephant sneeze that fascinate me.

I'll give you an example. I remember seeing this on TV when it was first broadcast years ago, and promptly burst into tears. Still do. I don't speak the Ojibwe language, but something heartbreaking is being communicated, though it is a love song set to the tune of Turkey in the Straw. It causes me lachrymal leakage.

What music or songs do that for you?

It's so funny you ask this cause every song I have heard today has made me cry. Seriously. This one did me in:

I can see that happening. Do you think you connected with the lyrics in particular, the overall mood, or just the combination of notes hit you?

This is a sad thread ):

This is a sad thread ):

It can be Bird...but they can be tears of joy, tears of release. If I cry, it isn't always because I am sad, sometimes they are from a denouement of some issue that I have been wrestling with...they could be tears of relief. Sometimes a song or lyric can be, literally, an untangling of a knot.

It reminds me of someone close. Actually he had part of the lyrics *He played on old guitar* on his messenger status for awhile, and it didn't occur to me until today that it came from this song.

The power of music to make connections to events, emotions and people. To me, this is a fascinating thing, those occurrences.

Bagelriffic...that one slays me, all of it. The end, where he closes the lid and runs his hands over it was something my late grandmother did when she played the piano...that was the tear jerker cherry on top for me.

I forgot one, that I was literally just thinking of. This version of this song, makes me cry almost every time I hear it.

Also this cover of Space Oddity...I have a feeling I'll be contributing a lot to this thread. Music gets my tear ducts going almost more than anything else.
