Well that's what usually happens in the industry. It's a marketing/product management strategy to create maximum profit! The worst thing is when it happens in pharmaceuticals and other services that are crucial to society's well being...I have heard a lot of worrying rumors (didn't verify them yet) that there are cures for certain diseases that are not out there in the market, because a company or two will go bankrupt if a cure was found.
