British Socialism

Deregulation would increase the supply of doctors (and drugs), meaning they would get paid less than they currently do.

Deregulation would, however, make healthcare cheaper and more plentiful.
So, if you're for deregulation in this instance, we certainly can come to a consensus.

No I'm not for deregulation. That would cheapen health care's quality in exchange for providing it for everyone.

You seem to have in your mind that self interest equates only to financial incentive. All the things I have suggested are in our self interest. Helping others, increasing status, self improvement, building relationships, etc. are self interests.
Something is a self-interest if, and only if, the self is interested in it. If someone doesn't care about helping others, then it is not, by definition, in their self-interest to do so.

And for the third time, I repeat...

People have long forgotten what is actually in their self interest.

They do happen. Everyday. I think that when you prentend that the hell you go through is any less than the hell that many people here go through, then you are being pretentious.

Noooo!! STOP puting words in my mouth as well as labeling me incorrectly. I truly think that this is hell, but i don't pretend that I'm going through more hell than the victims of health mistreatment!!

You probably have a lot more respect for doctors for Sweden than they have here. There are other factors to consider besides just the financial ones.

In fact not at all. We have a serious problem in Sweden with doctors: there is a huge lack of doctors. They are freelance doctors or they moved abroad...

So the knowledge you have gain, the self improvement you have made, the improvements to society you may make, the relationships and bonds you may have formed, the responsibility you hold in society, etc. are all completely worthless because you make as much money as a lazy bum who has none of those things? Wow, its clear to see where your values are.

STOP insinuating that its clear what my views are like they are evil.
The effort MADE pursuing a career is worthless in this society, yes! Thus why we have a serious problem in Sweden. You know what they say: 'Time is money'

The horrible truth is that a person looking out for the society as a whole will be eaten alive as it is.. And If that is what you are looking for then perhaps you should look to the communist ideology.

No, I got what you're saying. It's not a matter of forgetting, it's a matter of you seeming to think you have the right to tell people what's good for them.

I think it would be great if more people wanted to help others. I'm all for educating children to think that helping others is a good thing. But if there's an adult that isn't motivated by helping others, I'm not going to tell him that he doesn't know what his own self-interest is, or that he's forgotten it.

Subjective.
It could be argued that it would allow for lower quality healthcare, but it wouldn't lower the quality of healthcare in general.

You get what you pay for.

I'm all for freely and genuinely willingly giving back to ones community!! As opposed to being forced. ..There aren't even any communities here, which would also explain why no brotherly mentality exists in Sweden.

Perfect example of what I think of as the former being, free, and the latter imprissoned.

You value money more than those other interests. I'm not saying that is evil, I'm just saying that it how it appears to me.

In the words of Martin Luther King, "A man who won't die for something is not fit to live." Or in the words of Gahndi, "Live to be the change you wish to see in the world." I guess those "communist" words of valuing something as greater than money and living a life for it, is just my silly ideology.

Thread Closed due to heaps of complaints and the OP was a JOKE.

If people who have complained ask for the thread to be reopened, without complaint as to how this thread continues, it will be.

Why? If you don't tell him, then how is he going to know? Chances are, he has no problem telling you that your self interest is respecting his personal freedom and right to accumulate property.

Oh goody. I'm so glad this thread got re-opened because now I get to post one of my new favorite quotes I just heard this weekend. By a Brit, no less:

"The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money."
--Margaret Thatcher

Pragmatic, no?

___
Uh-oh, now I'm having too much fun to stop. Curse Google.

"It is not the creation of wealth that is wrong, but the love of money for its own sake."
---MT

"No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions; he had money as well. "
--MT

"If you want to cut your own throat, don't come to me for a bandage."

I know exactly how you feel. Socialism is a SHAM that demonizes everything.

Here is a critical thinking question for ya PG...

Can you think of specific cases where socialism may be better than privatization? Can you think of specific cases where capitalism doesn't inventivize people?

Socialism is noting more than a escalating form of government control under the guise of good will and humanitarianism.... It is a joke historically and it shall prove to be so in the future. Its like going to a tacky used car lot, buying a 1973 buick and expecting to get a good safe vehicle for your family... You eventually find that its a BS deal but its way to late to change it... If only Russia had succeeded then maybe we could be having this argument... Even if socialism works for a little bit the heart of socialism will eventually shine through and show the inward intent which is CONTROL of people at the expense of everyone. :m156:

I think that socialism may be better at having open doors for immigration by allowing free flux of war victims. When USA went into Iraq, tens of thousands came here... Thus, why basic security is heaven for them as well as free education - but no jobs...

I'm a bastard because I'm a perfect example of someone who uses this system to my advantage, the public sector, to then get the hell out of here and then if I become old, I can freely return and get a long vacation of my pension.. ;)

But the eternal damage, the years in between can never be erased...

Janet said it perfectly:

"The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money."

Bullshit!

'73 Buicks are awesome.

In the words of Martin Luther King, "A man who won't die for something is not fit to live." Or in the words of Gahndi, "Live to be the change you wish to see in the world.".
Aren't these quotes a little contradictory? If you die for something, you can't live to be the change you want to see.
