Article says millenials more conservative than previous generation

Although my own parents were also conservative, I am kind of glad to see the tides of extreme liberal attitudes shifting in the past few years. Maybe that's why I find guys who are a bit younger than me (I'm 34 now) are on the same wavelength as me and those who are over 40 I feel are way different in the morality department.

Perhaps it is just my experiences but it may just be true that millennials are more conservative. The volatility of the job market, growing up in divorced households, and living in a hyperconnected world may make one more conservative. It may also be a backlash against the liberalism of the baby boomers.

What do you think? Are you more conservative or more liberal?

Really? Only millennials like to read about themselves?
Going by this logic the media shouldn't be writing about anyone because those people like reading about themselves.
 
I think he is saying the plurality of media content providers are millennials.

I've wasted time typing and erasing the many possibilities of how to structure a presentation of logic that would be effective in explaining why this makes no sense at all. But I've concluded that what you said is so damn asinine, I couldn't possibly in my right mind give the benefit of the doubt to whoever would say something like this, would actually understand what I had to say.

I really don't understand why you (@Artemisia) didn't interpret what @the said as what @Stu had to clarify.
 
I think each generation sometimes has tunnel vision, because it sees things from it's backdrop of it's own experiences. Thing is, it's tough for a generation to fully understand what's going on without the perspective of having lived in a time that was different from it is today. I don't believe millennials are conservative based on traditional definitions of the term. Being conservative in the 80s and 90s is not the same as being conservative today. Conservatism today is about spending less to have more to spend for today. Conservatism of the past was about saving more to have more for the future nest egg.

In the past people "splurged" or treated themselves to something nice on special occasions, and put aside money for the future. Today, people treat themselves to nice things whether or not they can afford it. It's all about "living in the moment" and enjoying life. That's not a traditional conservative pov.

So, those terms need to be understood within a particular social, political, economic, and cultural context before there can be any comparison. Conservatism of the past was also more closely linked to social and moral accountability, not just fiscal responsibility. Unless all these different aspects are considered, the statistics are misleading.

If you were to ask the generations of the 80s and 90s what they understood about what it meant to be conservative, you would not get the same answer. Remember, those generations weren't dominated by computers or internet or iphones, and they weren't recovering from a huge recession. So . . . perspective.

This does not surprise me. It is probably a product of the Great Recession.

And we would still probably elect Bernie Sanders if it were up to only us.

1) The article does not give links to the original studies and the datas. This matters: How much samples are we talking about here? What are the demographic samples? Are all groups well-represented; or is there any imbalance in particular group (race/age/sex/gender/sexualorientation/class/financialstatus/etc) ?

2) I note that the article basically stated repeatedly that students self identified themselves as X.
This also matters. Because:
a) A conservative nowadays will have different standards, ideas, and targets compared to a conservative of the older generation (for example; they might be less religious; or less homophobic) The same as liberals.
b) Nowadays a label is LOADED like fuck. For instance if you consider yourself a liberal then you're automatically a PC, safe space advocate feminist SJW. But that is not true at all.

So I found it too inconclusive to draw any ....conclusion.
