I know people can be arseholes but is anyone else alwayse dumbfounded when they are? I'm not just naive, I swear, but I'm alwayse taken aback by certain actions.

Things like:
Cheating on someone
Breaking promises
plotting against someone for reasons as simple as "I dont like them"
vindictiveness
lieing
complete disregard for those around them, be it their safety or feelings.

...or am I really just naive?

Nah. You're principled, that's all. Honor has gone by the wayside in today's society.

Agreed.

I do know how you feel though. I would not call it dumbfoundment though. Still, I can't really think of a word for it.

yeah.
sounds a bit like my principals myself.
my own credo is "decus officium fortitudo".
Helps me aviod doing those mentioned unless i'm in my shadow self in which case, I cant really seem to control. I also cant stand those that do such things, except lieing, which I find acceptable if they had a really really good reason for doing it, such as protecting the confidentiality of something/someone

I think I am naive. Just a little. if not a lot. It's not grand.

I don't understand how people do certain things. And sometimes that they DO do them.

I find it strange when people take actions like those because I can normally empathize, and even understand a certain disregard for others to a point - but I don't completely understand lack of a conscience.

How about "awe-stricken with disdain"? has a certain ring to it, no?
