Anyone here do kung fu? Which type is the best? There are so many branches . . . I've thought about, but after a year of thinking, I'm still not brave enough to sign up for a class. I was sorta thinking of doing Tai Chi at the community center . . .

I did Taekwondo for 5 years. It's kind of the Boy Scouts of martial arts though. Most martial arts schools offer a few free lessons so you can try it out before you sign up.

I've done quite a few. If you're serious about martial arts then I'd recommend these three as a base:

  • Jeet Kun Do
  • Silat
  • Muay Thai

I've never learnt Tai Chi, never had the chance, but Tae Kwon Do has far too many McDojo's to be able to find a good one.

I'll vouch for the American Taekwondo Federation and the American Taekwondo Association.
