Writing academic papers

A lot has already been said on this that I agree with, however I thought I'd comment since I've got a couple of big assignments looming and a supervisor breathing down my neck!!

My way of writing involves a LOT of editing! I'll structure my research very well as soon as I can, read until my eyes bleed and take as many notes as possible, sit on the idea for a short length of time, then write out a semi-structured but also incredibly waffly draft... this is then pruned, switched around, cut, pasted, rewritten, printed out and looked at (in case it somehow looks different than on the screen). I'll then write more and repeat, then write more and repeat. It's an incredibly stupid process, but somehow my brain attunes whole system to whatever timeframe I have, so I can do it at a more rapid pace when needed.

I hope I haven't come in too late to wish you good luck with whatever you're writing anyway... :)
