Ok, so the Fibonacci numbers (Note that the real origin of this pattern can be traced to ancient India) are a subset that kinda goes like this

0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,etc

1+1=2
__1+2=3
____2+3=5
______3+5=8
________5+8=13
__________8+13=21

On and on.

So in one of my poems I created a verse based off the Fibonacci numbers.

Wait...
I...
Can't wait
I will strive
Give in to the tide
I must find a way to survive
To solidify
Until I find
My love
you...
You.

So the syllables go:

1
1
2
3
5
8
5
3
2
1
1

Although, could start anywhere in the sequence such as

1
2
3
5
3
2
1

or

2
3
5
8
5
3
2

You don't actually have to ascend/descend either. Curious if anyone is willing to give it a go!

I search on
To eternity
To the end of everything
When the skies crash and empty streets are torn asunder
I never find what I look for; that speck among the grains of sand that eludes all time.
I digress to the fate of time which pulls me onward
Surrender to the will of man
Where else can I turn?
I surge on

I am lost
Still, I search in vain
Forever

I
am
waiting.
Waiting and
Thinking. For what or
about what I do not know. But
Perhaps it will come
clear while I
sit and
wait.

not poetic. more stream of consciousness. i'll have to try again later.

Hah! they are all great, keep em coming. :D

nifty idea, i must say.

Yea, Tool did it in one of their songs, I am sure Bach has it somewhere too.

I want to hear the lyrics spoken sometime to hear how they sound rolling off the tongue to a beat.

Rose:
wilted,
yet unbloomed,
dead here on the stem.
Rejected and then forgotten,
it falls to the Earth,
rots away
t’nourish
ground

Breathing deeply inwards,
I roll my twenty,
try to grapple,
and stab you
in the
eye.
Or else
fail the check
and take damage
done by the attack
of opportunity.

Meh. All I could come up with for now. Excellent idea.

Reading the Count of Monte Cristo which inspired this.

Do not underestimate me
You fear what can never be seen
In the shadows I watch, waiting
Patiently biding my time, fire never abating
Soon your time will come, my naive unsuspecting friend
Our pasts have intertwined to one
Today, I pluck all the loose strings
Very soon you shall meet your end.

8-8-8-13-13-8-8-8

The above sequence can be sumarized with 3-2-3.

thank you for sharing this. it was fun and i may try more. i like the idea of the fibonacci sequence in the natural world. how nature has a pattern but it expresses itself in such individual ways..

Yea, it is pretty amazing. Fractals in general are all over the place and learning about them blows my mind!

In essence the musical scale is a fractal due to the logarithmic nature and self-similarities between octaves. However, it is not infinite because our ears only perceive a limited section of that set.

1.6180339887 ([1+√5]/2 or [1+2.23606798]/2 or 3.23606798/2) is the golden ratio and is the number that calculates the fibonacci proportion. As you advance in the fibonacci sequence, each proportion comes closer and closer to matching 1.6180339887 times the last number repeating on and on. That number is represented by the greek letter phi (uppercase Φ, lowercase φ or math symbol ϕ)

1.05946309435929 (12th root of 2 or 2^[1/12] or 2^0.0833333333)is the number associated to 12 step equal tempered tuning and is the proportion in which the frequency of a string increases to reach the next half-step. So Concert A with a frequency of 440 Hz times 1.05946309435929 would produce the next note up the scale which would be approximately 466.1368 Hz, otherwise known as A sharp.

So in the fibonacci sequence, each increase in proportion is self-similar to the last and to the next. Same with octaves in music.

Red dawn;
First warmth;
Stir my cold limbs!
A double betrayal;
Frictionless clouds, my erstwhile enemies,
March on; blessing begot.
Flames breathing life;
Death scoffs;
Mercy!

The hour approaches
We shall soon meet our chosen fate
Hold my hand, I will protect you
I will give you a reason to escape from all this
Just give me a kiss so that I know this is all real
Nothing else matters if we are together, just be.

I took a few liberties with this (mainly at the end), but I like it.

I
run
through the
woods of night.
I'm weaving between
the trees and the bramble and thorns
I leap o'er the rivers and streams, nible as deer.
I hear a rustling far away.
It comes nearer here.
I find m'self
running
with,
at my side,
A mighty stag.
We are running together.
We begin to acend a mighty mountain,
and the sun begins to rise.
We reach the top,
and we leap
into
the
sky.
