I love Babylon Bee. Not afraid to criticize Trump even though they are right-leaning.

You've got to be able to laugh at your leaders, even if you think they are better than the alternative, but are still absolutely wretched.

I don't think the left is any better
Neither the left or right was mentioned in the post.

More importantly, the left does not exist in any substantive manner in the United States.

Though I understand how the term is used to describe centrist corporatists whose function is to suppress any presentation of the left.

Ian

True, but if you are making a lot of left-wing talking points, it probably means you lean to the left politically.
No left-wing point was made. No mention of the left or right occurred. There is no functional left in the United States.

edit: I’m a bit of a globalist, so that informs my sense of the left-right axis.

I invite you to check out a quite nice typer:

That depends on how you define the left (in relation to the right).
Well, if you are interested in othering people, please do whatever you like. That’s none of my business.

I think categories can be helpful as shorthand. For example, we are on a Typology website. This is because we think categorizing personality is useful in some respects. This works for political views as well IMO. Maybe you don't? That's fine if you don't, but most of politics is based on left vs right political views.

The idea of "left versus right" is mostly just a form of control of the population by people in charge
Humans agree way more than they disagree, but linguistical nuances among other things are introduced to create false division

The harder you lean in to "left versus right," the more you are just applying the identity of one side or the other to your own self

Same for mostly any construct, MBTi included if you are interpreting it as otherness

"left versus right"

When I speak of left and right, it's not necessarily "Versus" each other. It's more than people have preferences on how they believe the government should be run. It has come to be that if you are left, you have disdain for the right, and vice versa. It has not always been this way. These problems are exacerbated with social media, which, in some sense, rewards hateful conduct toward the "other" as you correctly point out.

When I use left and right, it is simply tendencies on how people think government should be run. That is all I am using it for. I am center right. I am not strong right-wing or left-wing. I have a tendency to be more right-wing on some issues (like socially, for example). But I am not, and would not classify myself as "right-wing." I've heard people say things like, "No enemies on the right," which I think is wrong-headed and offensive. Why? Because that means a fascist would not be an enemy, and I have SERIOUS problems with that. Likewise, I can't get behind the left-wing talking points on race and CRT that state that a white person is inherently racist and it is impossible for a black person to be racist. These are things that have a categorization on where they "fit" politically.

In other words, left and right are political heuristics that can be useful, but not all-encompassing.
