Consciousness

What do you guys think of Julian Jaynes theory of consciousness? But in particular, his re-interpretation of the meaning behind great works like The Iliad or The Bible?

Personally, one of my favorite parts of his thesis is the idea that we do not need 'consciousness' to form concepts. Nor do we need it to: learn, remember and solve problems

Oh I highly recommend it. I read it when I was 16 and it blew my mind. Someone mentioned it to me recently and I got excited about it again.
