*********INSPIRATIONAL THREAD***************

This goes out to all the unhealthy members on infjf. And yes, i had you in mind specifically for this thread.

If you eat fast food all the time - cut it out. I will try to, as well. Sometimes it helps to just look up the ingredients online to see what actually is inside that amazingly delicious fast food. I mean, it's not news to me that it's unhealthy, but 49 ingredients to make a flour tortilla? Gross.

So, I have decided to become healthier. I'm tired of being tired all the time.

These are examples of healthy foods that i enjoy and intend on eating:

almonds
avocados
shrimp!

err... I feel like that list should be longer.

I am also going to start walking 30 mins a day.

Who's with me?! Who has any good ideas/stories/tips?

****************************************

im eating gummy life savers atm and drinking mountain dew.

have i despired you yet?

No?

Well I'm telling the truth.

Hah. knew I could despire you.

but i ran 3.4 miles earlier, so reallly I just inspired you again.

So in the end we are the same.

seriously tho: I have been bringing my lunch to work everyday now, and while its not the healthiest, it's certainly healthier than 32 oz of soda. double hamburger and fries.

yes

YES

YES!!

I love those three items. :P

I'm currently trying to eat healthier myself, not that I've eaten fast food regularly or anything like that.. but I'm trying to cut down on sugary delights a bit as well. One of the easiest things is to switch to drinking pretty much only water. In addition I'm also out running for 2 hours a day. I'm not in the best shape, so yeah, not sprinting the whole time for sure. I started off doing it like 1 hour a day just to get into the habit and then proceeded to add on the second hour once I fell into the groove. I'll admit I don't always get out for both hours but it certainly does make me feel good. I suppose I'm also lucky to have some beautiful surroundings to take in while I go running.. Oh, and let's not forget my trusty IPod.

I'm too healthy and I scare myself a bit about it. I'm on a gluten free diet. I go to the gym every other day for an hour, I do yoga, I take walks, I enjoy the Canadian outdoors. I eat well, I don't really ever eat fast food, soda is rare.

This wasn't some sort of self congratulatory post, just fact.

So yes, I am with you. I take multi vitamins and omega 3 6 9 I'm looking into getting some rice protein powder, some of those powders are weird/taste awful/cost a million dollars.

Maybe talk to your doctor about lifestyle and diet changes, just to make sure you're on the right track or see a dietitian. You can't go wrong with the multi vitamin and omegas though, they make a HUGE difference in mood/bullshit tolerance of daily life.

And these things take time and it's all gradual. I've started this intense stuff (intense for me) for only about a month. I feel great, but it's easier to start slow with things, cut out things gradually, increase exercise as the weeks go on. Maybe get an appointment with a trainer, get body fat % and all that stuff and some guidelines for what you personally need to focus on. I think one appointment is around $100 with all the measurements and tailored workouts.

The unfortunate thing with weight loss/getting healthy, it takes a while. But the results are worth it because you know how much dedication it took to get there. And of course it's never fast enough, butttt good things will happen if you keep it up :)

I am a big fan of fancy salads.. with fun things like almonds and walnuts and feta cheese and exotic lettuces..and cilantro. Cilantro is good with nearly everything and has a lot of iron in it.

Almond milk has way less calories and carbs than cow's (or even soy milk) and yet it has way more calcium than cow's milk.

Stinging nettle and dandelion tea are both loaded with vitamins.. just get used to the taste and it's worth it. Stinging nettle tastes very planty and dandelion can become bitter if you do not use enough water to dillute the tea.

Something that helps me stay motivated to eat better is to learn what different vitamins different foods have.. or to learn what health benefits are associated with a particular food.

For example, I am more motivated to drink dandelion tea because I understand that it detoxes the body and cleanses the blood (which also results in better looking skin). Plus it has a lot of vitamins A,C,D,E,B and calcium and iron etc. etc. etc.

I'll admit that I've recently been subsisting on cookies, coffee and diet sodas... I go through healthy/crappy eating phases depending upon how busy I am.

You are now making me crave avocados and almonds..

acd; big fancy salads make my day. I could litterally eat a whole salad serving-bowl of the stuff.

Sushi is always nice, natural and fresh - except there is something about the rice they use that seems a little on the rich/sugary side.

I'm heading into winter down here - so nice vegetable soups are just great. The only problem is that I'm not much one for cooking.

I'm on board with this. I had to be for my anxiety. Here's what I do:
Cut out as much sugar as I possibly can.
Doubled my fruits and vegetable servings.
Ate more protein and cut down to only 2 pieces of organic bread made without flour.
Drink water and only water with the very rare fruit juice.
Take garlic capsules as well as flax seed oil capsules.
Walk every day (though depending on what I have going on I don't always get to this part!)

I've lost quite a bit of weight doing this, so it works fabulously. Everyone just has to find what works for them and what they can sustain long term.

Almonds are extraordinarily good for your cardiovascular health... the most sold blood pressure/cholesterol drug in the world is a cheap knockoff of what occurs naturally in almonds (and moreso in walnuts.) Get tons of fiber... we're supposed to get 150-250g of it a day and most of us rarely get more than 12-15g. Prefer glucose over sucrose over high fructose corn syrup. If the label says hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated on the label, don't waste your money. Cut out softdrinks, limit juice (unless you squeezed it yourself), etc

Instead of walking 30min a day you should do something more rigorous for 15min. Getting your heart rate up is key.

Also try to eat beans once a day or at least a few times a week.

Other good foods that are easy to integrate:

Cherries
Cranberries
Kale
Oatmeal

It doesn't hurt, but the amount of calories you burn doing exercise is not important; Aerobic stuff like that have a 2-4 hour metabolic boost... definitely good for you, but it's just not on the same scale as training your body through building lean muscle... the metabolic boost form that runs from about 36-48 hours (i.e., straight into your next workout.) Ideally, you'll do both.

Guh, I still need to get my bike fixed

Yeah, I'm with you!

We should all do a three day water fast!

Almonds are amazing for you as is olive oil. Don't be afraid of good fats.

i fast everyday for 16-24 hours. i love it!
i always train fasted-- HIIT then bodyweight exercises--- push ups, leg lifts, pull ups, and DB exercises.
usually i'll break my fast with a meat (or eggs) and potatoes; then when i get hungry again, some eggs, or meat, fruit, and peanut butter.

healthy is an end result-- if you keep your body detoxed, you can eat junk food (MODERATION GUISE) and be alright.

Kmal When I was at school I worked out almost every day for about 4 straight months and lost weight. I started doing hiit but it made me depressed because I would do it on an empty stomach which made me energy poor for the rest of the week.

I'm actually healthy and slim but I eat like crap and need to detox/eat healthier.

yes!! www.leangains.com he's the one who coined the phrase fasted training, and set the time period for 16 hours without food to be considered in the fasted state.

you did HIIT on an empty stomach-- then you didnt eat? usually within 2 hours of my training i eat a high calorie meal-- high protein, carb, and fats! then i taper carbs depending on my energy level the rest of the day. lots of depression has been linked to low seretonin levels, controlled by carbs-- though, you can get into ketosis (type O blood type look into this please ;) ) and counter act that through other biological means.

slim /= muscular :D bickelz

I demand to know who this "you" person is!

It's my way of trying to make any and every unhealthy member feel guilty. It's not about anyone in particular.

And thanks people for being on board! It helps being more than one person doing this. Note, however, that this is not a weight loss motivated matter. I'm not really looking to lose weight, only to improve my energy levels and feel healthier overall :)

This thread is a good idea. :) I would like to try this too, and eat less junk food. Whenever I eat veggies and fruits I feel much more energized. :3

Lately I've been drinking fruit drinks to replace soft drinks. I get mine from "Bolthouse Farms." They are pretty good, and they are supposed to contain a serving of fruit. Kind of pricy, but worth it for a healthy snack. =]

And avocados are delicious. :P

I am with you.

Recently I stopped drinking every single night, even though I used to drink no more than 2 drinks averagely (broke the habit for over a month already)
I walk at work for at least 5 hours a day.
I don't eat any junkfood.
Since I got out of college no fastfood and pizza for me (maybe once in a month)
No more sugary soda

Next goals to accomplish: reduce tobacco intake (at least reduce it, quitting - eventually)
Start taking vitamins daily (always forget) - starting tomorrow
Eat more vegetables - starting after the next trip to the grocery store, thinking about celery and carrots since they can be stored for a relatively long time in the fridge.
Jogging on the weekend - starting Saturday.

I will do my best to stick to the goals :)
