One ability Ni supposedly has is the ability to read between the lines, so to speak, and intuit hidden motivations, feelings, thoughts, etc. Are you attracted to INXJs because of this quality? Do you like it that Ni "reads" your mind?

Note: this thread is not about whether this ability exists. If you think it exists, that's good enough for present purposes.

I don't know that I'd call this any kind of special ability. I would just think that people who do this have a specific perspective that allows them to pick up on these more subtle undertones. I think it's just pattern recognition and has nothing to do with the person they are "reading" and more to do with certain behaviours, phrases, patterns, expressions, etc that they have seen in most of the population. To me, that's not mind reading, it's putting 2+2 together to come to a conclusion, which is usually kind of vague but would fit most people.

I do not think people are very individual when it comes to patterns as most of them are conditioned from a young age. It may just so happen that Ni users see this more. Though I would say that INTJ's are less capable of picking up the more nuanced side of the emotional aspect of it, depending on how developed they are.

I find INTJ men and INFJ men to be attractive if they are well developed enough and aren't laden down with a bunch of issues (which most of them are). I think they do have some very particular talents that make them really and truly unique to interact with. Otherwise, I find them interesting but don't want to be close to them because they have a tendency to cling or shut down or have other issues that negatively impact whatever kind of relationship we're in.

Yes, I didn't mean that INFJs or INTJs literally read minds, but that they appear to have this ability even if it actually comes from pattern recognition or some other more mundane source. What are the "particular talents" you speak of?

I agree. I know nothing about what you are thinking. I know everything about your hand gesture though. Of note, a lot of my gestures used to be unconscious, but then through lots of research, I learned that palms up means subservience, and palms down means dominance. So now, I do palms up. This is to show the kind of manipulation we do. Still point my finger though when I talk to emphasize and drive the point home. Soon, in several years, my image will be perfected at this rate. Do note, I am quite emotionally underdeveloped. One could argue I'm autistic in this regards. Doesn't matter, I know what I am.

It gets real funny when I'm presented with a situation I don't know about or didn't predict. I'll usually copy the gesture. Such as when I offered a friend to shake my hand, and he rejected by putting his hand to the back of his neck. Laughter ensued. He knew I knew and I knew he knew. Now he isn't a very good friend of mine. Most of my good friends return the gesture to show that they understand, instead of signifying that one is better than the other like the other guy did. >:C

But yeah. This is what I'm thinking in a social circumstance. Can you understand why we have trouble in groups? I imagine this is the same with INFPs, except they are Fi doms, so they are trying to do the opposite of aspergers in this case, focusing on one person's story.

Yea! If I care about you, I pay attention to you and don't dismiss your needs and wants. As much as I'm working on it, I do expect to not have my needs and wants ignored. Because I am making them obvious if you're paying attention at all.

That is the second most attractive quality in a person, for me.. matching intuition. I couldn't be with a sensor. I need that Ni to Ni connection. It's very attractive.

I don't know much with all these typing
The way i feel it is a little more complex for me.
Our unconsciousness is a Harddisk, it gathers all the information and all the stimula we take from other people, i feel it like pieces of a puzzle that are random but already saved in the unconsciousness.
The consciousness decides to process these information, to construct the puzzle, sometimes for me it happens rapidly and...
Voila i have your character in the table.

The human brain always saves all of the information it takes, each healthy individual decides how to use them, depends of the cognitive abilities of its individual.
All living beings give with their energy all the information we need to understand them, we just need to observe, Its easy

I'm INTJ, and I like other intuitives because they get what you mean, and how you meant it.

Weak intuition is frustrating because people get bogged down in semantics, irrelevant details, and get all jumpy about word choice, like if you use a particular word they dislike.

Lol

I would love to meet someone like me one day.
But would I really like "me"? I do not know.
If I knew beforehand he is like me, then of course,
but he will be just as closed as I am at the beginning.
How long would it take me to read him?

Intj's and Infj's can share almost the same subliminal communication as two Infj's in a RS can. The two Ni doms just operate in a different way, Tj's by their internal system of logic and linking things, and Infjs by utilizing the gut.. which comes more mysteriously & instinctively to us than the way a Tj gathers from his Ni. There is that lovely 'Jedi' communication present when any two highly intuitive Ni doms cross beams though, in my experience. The problem is that if the Tj is not mature he may not accept the Fj's predictions based on a 'lack of evidence' and an immature Tj can be brutally hurtful, even angry, which can wound sensitive Fj.

In turn, if the Infj lacks maturity, they may overreact to even emotionally mature and loving Tj's at the slightest word of conflict and end up so wounded that they are driven away, or even door slam.

It's a dual edged sword RS, two Ni doms together. Heaven or Hell.. it all depends. :tearsofjoy:

I like Ni doms. I think they are good at shifting out of their perspective. They are good listeners, since they tend to go deeper into the topic, ask additional questions etc. They are also quick to separate wheat from the chaff when it comes to potential ideas, so they are a good person to have around when making decisions or brainstorming. Especially INTJs I would say.

I don't think there is anything magical about it, though. They can still have their biases and flaws like any other type, which can make their judgement unreliable.

They don't need a lot of data to make a conclusion, which can be impressive but is also prone to error.

I score 89% Intuitive. I find I cannot even really have normal conversations with Sensors without both of us getting frustrated. I can’t read minds, I can read disruptions in patterns. Micro hesitations, speech patterns of parsed phrases. As I got older I recognized that while I might be able to read patterns of reaction and understand when there was underlying stuff under the content- trying to independently interpreting what is going on if far trickier and indeed error prone. I try hard not to make assumptions, I might always know when something is going on, I remind myself that I in fact need to be careful in my self assurances that I know what that is.
As far as liking it? People get me wrong a lot. My motivation and processes are pretty simple, but difficult I guess for people to accept. I appreciate it when a mature intuitive “gets it”. Although I find it to be pretty rare. This isn’t because I have some vast specialness, I don’t. It’s more that I learned extremely well the art of a flash bang or smokescreens and deploy them almost without thinking. I guess I work to not be known more reflexively than I think. Then feel all sorry for myself that I’m not understood. Pretty stupid.

I think Ni is an interesting mode of operation, for sure. I can't say I'm attracted to it, because it doesn't have much of an outward expression. Ne, on the other hand, is expressed outwardly, so I notice it immediately, and as my own Ne is strong, people who have Ne "get me" in that intuitive way. In terms of functions that I'm attracted to, Fe probably takes the cake.

Ni-doms seem to approach things a little backward to me. For example, when I have some sort of idea/intuition about something, I then think "does this make sense?" That seems "normal" to me. Ideas that don't have some sort of strong foundational logic to them are discarded, unless I'm joking around. On the other hand, the final arbiter of any sort of perception for a Ni-dom is their Ni. It ultimately comes down to something like "does this seem/feel right?" For me, just because something seems right, it doesn't mean that it is... so I find myself continually questioning the conclusions of Ni-doms, not because I think less of them, but because my brain is unable to operate in the same manner.

So basically, this:

They don't need a lot of data to make a conclusion, which can be impressive but is also prone to error.

However, the many experiences I've had in my life with INTJs and INTPs have demonstrated that Ti/Te is also prone to error... because they're human. Te types can easily be blinded by "reliable" data which may be within a different context than they purport, and Ti types can tend to assume their logic is universal, when it in fact is often subjective (e.g. get a few INTPs in a room, make them discuss a few controversial topics, watch the arguments fly).

I’ve been at science conferences or talks where the room is predominantly INTPs and INTJs. Toss in an ENTJ or two and the room does indeed become real hairy really quickly.
