    Contemporary existential psychology - works

Hello! Hopefully, this is in the right place. For anyone who's read the works of existential/humanistic psychologists like Rollo May: Which would you recommend, and why? For background, I'm a psychology/philosophy guy in undergraduate-graduate school limbo, probably pursuing clinical psych...

Autism is mere Introversion to a extreme?

Not really. Arguably the most salient personality factor in low-functioning autistic folk is having little-to-no 'theory of mind', which means they experience consistently significant deficits in 1) general social awareness and 2) what other people are thinking/feeling. This has perhaps more to...

Why is it so difficult for parents to understand their offsprings' POVs?

I should've mentioned this before, but both of my parents are pretty extraverted (as is my older brother). The I/E divide has probably been the biggest personality factor inhibiting our respective communicative efficacies, though it's been much less of an issue as of late.

Why is it so difficult for parents to understand their offsprings' POVs?

They don't discourage it at all, really, but thanks for playing.

Enneagram 4's: emotional highs/lows, possible emotional masochism, and growth

To start off with, I'm unsure of my main Enneagram type. As best as I can tell, it's one of 4, 1, 9, or 5 (listed in descending order of probability). In any event, I can at least say that I've experienced "the 4-side"--especially as far as social situations and hyper-emotionality, in certain...

Why is it so difficult for parents to understand their offsprings' POVs?

Some good responses, to what was initially a needed (albeit fairly innocuous form of a) vent. Thanks, all. Can't possibly know the answer to that, without actually being one. I've been told things along the lines of "you're good father material", but I've never taken such comments very...

Why is it so difficult for parents to understand their offsprings' POVs?

As someone who's felt misunderstood (or maybe just flat-out underappreciated) by his parents for basically his entire life, and has acutely felt the harmful repercussions of it, this thread's title's question is of great importance to me. What are some of your theories or relevant...

    INFJs and the Stock market

IMO, the INFJ's keen ability to predict the movements of other people (esp. when driven by fear or greed, here), in addition to their analytical prowess, are their strongest assets in beginning to navigate the stock market (or economic markets in general). I strongly suggest studying game...

Sad Feelings Persist Much Longer than other Emotions

I interpret sadness in primarily two ways. One would be the more fleeting, "aw" feeling you get when you're in the temporarily-induced mode of pitying something-or-other--usually by way of an event which is experienced indirectly through media, or by someone else in one's immediate environment...

    Do all the things

I don't really consider what I went through as 'depression' at all, though I believe many others would think to label it that. The main reason I say this is that existential crises like mine really aren't very uncommon (at least, not in modern westernized/industrialized societies), and are...

    Do all the things

I definitely did, during college. Learning to be more mindful of (and therefore, content in) the present has snapped me out of the crisis. As problems go, I think wanting to do all the things is a relatively good one to have, so long as one doesn't let it reduce them into a "everything can't be...

Biggest Source of Frustration as an INFJ

Falling into the same effing romantic traps over and over again.... "But I thought this time was different!"

    INTJs and Fi

Any other INFJs have experience with this? What's interacting with them been like for you? Recurring complications, misunderstandings, etc.? How did interacting with them on a more intimate level than you might otherwise be used to feel? Lastly: How did you connect with them--and if you...

    INFJ's darker side and anger

I noticed two years ago that I was headed toward a somewhat darker growth trajectory than before--call it the steady outcome of increasing disillusionment. I'm harnessing my accumulated resentment and bitterness more effectively these days, in ways I'd only dreamed of before...question is, will...
