Hey, I didn't want to derail that thread further, but I wanted to say something.
Good ol' Jung discovered a substantial pattern, but he was far too vague(leading to misinterpretation, which is important to avoid), and presented his definitions in a way that makes them look more like archetypes.
I find that Extroverted orientation of a function is better compared with expanding the context, and Introverted orientation with having a more reductionistic approach, which is consistent with Jung's definition of abstraction.
----------
Abstraction. A form of mental activity by which a conscious content is freed from its
association with irrelevant elements
----------
Reductive - A Reductive process is that which breaks down the context or understanding; it orients towards the root from the point of access, reducing the category into multiple distinct categories in the process.
Expansive - An Expansive process is that which compounds the context or understanding; it orients towards manifestations from the point of access, expanding the category into a more inclusive one in the process.
Now, I realize you can say these are subject to interpretation too, but I like them better.
