It helps me win any spiritual or political debate, whilst also enabling one to translate ideas from Eastern philosophy into the western concept of thinking. It is only through philosophy can a western person understand Buddhism, and not from the religious sense as would a person growing up in a Buddhist culture. So philosophy is very important as it exercises one mental cognitive abilities and therefore leads to a more logical and reasoned world. If philosophy was taught instead of religious studies or alongside it, what a difference I believe it would make on the education of young people at school. Philosophy promotes creative thinking, and a culture of reason and logic, morals and ethics, much needed in our morally deficit society. If there was more of the influences of philosophy in the halls of power, I believe there would be a lot less wars and economic blunders.
