Do you think the high point for surrealism in cartoons has past and do you expect there ever to be a repeat of it?

I'm thinking of shows like Ren and Stimpy (the later episodes), Rocko's Modern Life (from the second season onwards), catdog (although this was perhaps the most Nickelodeon childrens network of them all) and some of the earliest episodes of Spongebob Squarepants.

If there is surrealistic or weird aspects of cartoons like American Dad, Family Guy or Simpsons there remains a kind of realism break upon it all, they do go strange or there are jokes which require a bit of context, analysis or in-group humour but never anything which is truly strange in appearence or out right bizarre like the toons I've mentioned.
