Depends on the INTJ, just like for any other type ;)

That being said, the INTJs I know are pretty excellent people. (@Hostarius: :mpoke:)

    *Watches thread with great interest*

I have noticed that there are a lot of INFJs here in relationships with INTJs. It seems pretty common, although I do wonder if there isn't an element of 'role adaptation' in long term relationships.

E.g. If one is a feeling judger, the other might gravitate more towards thinking judgement to balance the couple.

And I would say that there is a whole world of difference between real-life INTJs and online INTJs.

One of the real life ones happens to be the finest man I have ever met, and one of my close friends.

    Well apparently I am one.

My actual opinion is that the stereotypes are so negative that it just makes me feel really bad and I kinda don't want to be one.

INTJs are arrogant, selfish, know-it-all assholes.

That's all I ever hear, really. Or rather, those are the opinions that I remember, simply because they are so negative.

Then you flick through the threads on this forum and there's so much real hate. Someone in particular claims that they're just evil and should be avoided like the plague, and I just want to fade into the walls and give up.

There are INFJs who are total ****heads and fluffball INTJs. I don't believe in putting all representatives of one type in a single box.

Indeed there is a similar trend with "pop culture astrology" where signs are labeled as all being this or that and as people are not types or signs it makes just as little sense to use those labels.

I think people don't like them because the bad apples have a knack for creating complex logical fallacies that appear true initially, and are at the very least extremely difficult to take apart and refute in the heat of the moment. You can't win an argument with an INTJ, and when there is no give-and-take between people it becomes particularly frustrating to most people. So the "bad" INTJs stick out as more memorable than other INTJs and even other types. Like for example the worst an INFJ is gonna get is just obstinate, conspiratorial and ignoring of information, they won't bother taking time to explain all the minutia and reasons you are "wrong" like an INTJ will. INTJs can embody a sort of thoroughness that is difficult and frustrating to combat at multiple levels.

But on the flip side, the good and patient ones can lead people down pathways of clarity like no other. They are like an iron wall or a golden gate, basically.

This is good stuff! exactly true...i personally do not generally like fellow INTJs or at least the ones i have met, perhaps i am not that strongly typed..thats why i posted this question.. you will notice im new here too. i personally do not have that big of an experience with INFJs...

But you are exactly right, it seems like what INTJs do is misuse factual information in order prove something they believe instead of changing what they are claiming to fit the factual information... or some such thing.. a logical fallacy. Most of them are very argumentative which i personally find to be an odd way to be.

Yeah that makes sense to me. I also think that there's a lot of amateur typing going on and thus people have started to default to labelling their bad experiences with 'INTJ'.

Personally, I don't 'dislike' or 'like' any of the types in particular.

I know I'm more likely to get on with other Intuitives, but to be honest that's as far as I go.

I'm trying to think if that's true now...
The worst experiences I've had (bullies, &c.) have all been ES types, so maybe I carry an unreasonable mistrust of them. ESTPs...

I've only dated one and she didn't share much of what she was thinking, too introverted for my taste.

I don't like ESTPs either, Ive actually had mostly ESTP work managers... they ranged from funny/odd/goofy to criminals/violent, although this also depended on the person.
