An ESTP posted the video linked below where he talked about his experience of inferior Ni; in particular, he mentioned a song by Clams Casino that directly activated his Ni and evoked a sense of wide open spaces, the imagery he associated with his Ni. The song is called "I Am God" and is also linked below. When you listen to this song, does it also speak to your Ni? If so, what is it about the song and what exactly does it do for you--ie, what is the experience it evokes? And what other music activates or stimulates your Ni? What is it about that music and what are the experiences you have while listening? Please share your songs. Thank you.

oh yes, absolutely. I think a lot of songs evoke in me different imageries. From good to bad; natural (forest, mountains), manmade (city street, a room), or the surreal.

For me..yeah, this songs invokes a feeling of openness and breeze and a certain cleanness sort of aesthetic.

Pft. I post songs to answer the questions of the universe and people think I'm playing. lol.

I don't think we can ascribe a certain cognitive function to a certain type of music.
For me its more like certain psychological experiences and impressions express well a certain kind of music, and in this sense, Ni is respossible for certain subjective and individual impressions in the mind of a man's psyche.

Ah, I've stumbled upon that Clams Casino song before. Very good, in my opinion. The feeling it gives me is sort of indescribable though. It's something akin to tranquility.

I listen to a lot of music that sound like they could be standalone "stories", if that makes sense. Some examples:

You can probably already tell after the first seconds what kind of feeling this song is trying to convey. It's fragile, but very powerful.

A favorite of mine that is just... very inspirational. Listening to this is like going on a journey.

This song might be too long for some people to bear, but it's so good. It's slowpaced in the beginning, but you can hear all the different kinds of emotions unveiling as time goes on. It's a beautiful piece, in my opinion.

Some more songs that I will just put up in link form:

audio safari - "transpose to october sun"
aus - "lovers"
Lullatone - "Slow Waltz"
Homestuck - "Moonsetter" (I don't know anything about the Homestuck game, but I find some of their music very enchanting)

All these songs make me think about life and all the joys and burdens it brings. I also tend to listen to a lot of "tiptoeing around glass" songs. Things that people would normally not want to listen to because of the eerie atmosphere and negative feelings they invoke, but... I dunno, I like them in my opinion. It's like taking a sneakpeek into the soul of the artist. Like sharing a secret.

I don't usually listen to songs with vocals/lyrics. At least the ones where I can understand the words. Mmm, I don't know why though. I just don't. It kind of breaks up my thinking, if that makes any sense.

The song didn't really do anything for me. It may simply be the pressures of my current mood pushing for more activity, though. I just returned from an international trip and am hungry for more.

There are a few songs, and a handful of musicians in particular, that consistently energize me via Ni. Primarily through their lyrics, these songs contain an abstract rush that I associate with the fluidity and mobility of streaming water. "Smile" by Eyedea and Abilities is fast-paced, tragic, and vaguely hopeful; it speaks simultaneously to the universality of suffering, the healing power of pain, and, by extension, the capacity of empathy to uplift and inspire. "The Dive" is another of his songs that I enjoy for its conceptual probing and the exploration of multiple perspectives. Among other things, it details the experiential ripples of various theories and the existential crises that can evolve from them - essentially exploring the delicacy of doubt. "Powdered water, too" does something similar and is like a musical rendition of Plato's Cave. I associate this song with the archetype of the senex and the artful, beautiful burden coiled within questions.

On a more upbeat note (hehe), "Yes" by Nujabes activates my Ni in a more clean and refreshing way. Where many of Eyedea's songs explore various tragedies of reality and human nature, this song by Nujabes evokes a sense of...vibrancy and clear-ness. I'm not really sure how to describe the experience. I always think of this song when I meditate, go rock climbing, or reach a high vantage after some struggle, when I thoroughly appreciate being alive and notice or indulge life's many pleasures. My perceptual field narrows to the aesthetic and the present moment, providing a calm bedrock on which to center myself after or in the midst of intellectual, moral, or physical strain. I hope some of this makes sense because I feel like I haven't conveyed myself properly.

Certain personalities definitely like certain types of music, I spoke with an INTJ recently on musical tastes...
it seemed the songs he disliked that I loved were very emotionally expressive vocal and arranged in that way, guitars and all.. he is a dominant "T" type

He preferred electronic, even very non emotive vocal melodies.. I could easily after that pinpoint his taste range.

So I think the exact set of congnitive functions may be a great determiner as well...

As another example an INFP male introduced me to some great music, I just loved all of what he showed me...

But INFP's can be pretty objective sometimes and he was more like an "S" when it came to not caring the message of some of the music he listened to..

For me, if the message is messed up, I cannot enjoy the music.. really, I have tried but a voice in my head says...
"this is so wrong".... so everything I listen to HAS to be conscientious, socially concious..

Great topic

These two songs give me the impression of Ni, really strong one.
