Logical Fallacies

( . Y . ) Fallacy these.

I believe that's the titilation fallacy

Porn and lapdancing are also guilty of the titilation fallacy. They offer something but don't deliver

Huh, wha? I was distracted...

I needed the giggle this thread provided. Thanks subwayrider

Providing giggles is my specialty. :D

LOL.... Prepare for people to get pissed... I do it to posters all the time.
Who really cares? They may get pissed for a short time and then go right back to their Speculation/Hunch Mode. All this logical fallacy stuff is fun for science but how fun is it for people analysis? It's just a phase. Leave the logic to the logic specialists (Ti/Te).
:w:

You just proved a point and then counter-argued it in five sentences. Congratulations. Your point is now null and void.

What is it that makes a fact verifiable?

Depends upon the data, hypothesis, time, variables, validity, No. of trials. Its a vague question..Its a fact. Facts can be verified, yet life remains "all possibilities".

I didn't get your whole fallacy thing at first, but now I do. I am avoiding the fallacy fallacy.

I was guilty of taking fallacy arguments seriously, which is, itself, a fallacy.

Actually, I think they can come in handy.

You're obviously well-informed, from reading your posts here, but IMO the truth is infinitely divisible. I often find myself thinking what a huge waste of time and energy debates are.

I think that debates can be useful to challenge yourself to prove that you know what you know. But beyond that, you're right. You can't confront every moron with an opinion.

The fallacy arguments to me are obvious for the most part and not terribly useful. As I stated in earlier posts, they are no substitute for knowing what you're talking about.

I think a lot of people get into debates with the intended goal of proving that they are right. This can lead to very heated discussions wherein both parties get very worked up and emotional. That's not what it is about, at all. Both parties should set out to learn as much as possible from the discussion, not strictly to reinforce what they think they already know.

Clearly not. But there are those who, inadvertently or otherwise, warp the logic/facts in a debate/discussion in a way that gives them the upper hand, and so the fallacies can act as a shield against that sort of thing. The fallacies are like a crash course in logic.

I think you've nailed that aspect of this discussion. I absolutely agree.

Yep, everyone can get a prize and be a winner. The world so happy!

Hey man, are you mocking me? I'm not afraid to beat you down with fallacy after fallacy.

If logical precision was so important to us, we would have been Te. But we're not, so it isn't.

Sigh... I lovvvve bickelz. :mlove2:

Logic, courtesy of Monty Python. I watched this movie again today and this scene reminded me of this thread. :3
