Jordan Peterson

There are essentially two distinct kinds of Chriatianity. One is the puruit of authenticity via life-long introspection via dialogue with one's soul. This, to me, iswhat Jesus referenced countless ways, paticularly in works not highjacked by Paul. Peterson camps with thet external projecting faith. It is the abandonment of any pursuit of perfectionism, or even continuous improvement. Their view is peopele are weak and disgusting sinners, but doing evil is get out of jail free if you hurry up and pray to be saved. Essentially,it is depravity justification.

I would not use that sort of dichotomy. The dichotomy I would use is those who actually believe it for what it is--believe the teachings of Christ and the Apostles, believe in the physical resurrection of Christ, are trying to improve themselves through the work of the Holy Spirit, generally have orthodox beliefs about Christianity, and are willing to die for the main claims Christianity makes. Then you have people who are Christians because they grew up Christian, or their friends are Christian, or they like the culture of Christianity, or they like the politics of some Christians, or whatever else besides adhering to orthodox faith as such. This later group is what the Bible calls "Christian in name only," meaning their faith is very shallow. When you have Christians in Nigeria who don't know if they will be killed in their sleep, just for being Christian, it shows the utter shallowness of some Christians in the West. It is reported that ~65% of people in the US claim to be Christian. I would put the figure closer to 10% or lower.

You' re getting very warm. Christianity was the invention of Paul. What jesus taught and was an emissary for was something very different and more akin to a series of spiritual ideas that arose throughout the far, middle and near east in the millennium BC.

No, you are wrong. Paul did not invent Christianity. That is a myth. Galatians, a book which virtually all scholars will say Paul wrote no matter how critical they are of Christianity, spent time with the "Pillars of the faith" (Peter, James, and John) and said, after Paul's meeting with them said, "They added nothing to me," meaning they were all in agreement. Bart Ehrman, one of the leading atheist experts on the NT, says of this, "How much closer can we get to the eye-witnesses than this?" (regarding Paul).

Also, you would have to throw out the book of Acts as well. Not to mention this verse, which specifically uses the word "Christian" (one of the very few times the word is used in the Bible), and it is said by Peter, not Paul.

1 Peter 4:16
"But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify God in having that name."
