Instrumental Music

I see lyrics and the addition of vocals as just another component of music and not more important than having good dynamics, texture, timbre etc... so if I don't like the lyrics of a track, it's fine as long as I'm into what's happening structurally, texturally and so on, whereas it doesn't work the other way around (good lyrics and vocals cannot save poor use of other musical components). Naturally then, I love a whole lot of instrumental music. I believe that it's really important to not let a lack of vocals to deter you from getting into certain types of music.
I couldn't be bothered checking if any Warp artists made it on here but Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin are pretty essential electronic acts and are among my favourite musicians in general:

In terms of jazz, Blues and Roots by Charles Mingus is excellent and a great starting point for anyone wanting to get into the genre.

My other favorite jazz musicians would be Herbie Hancock, Sun Ra and some acid jazz (like James Taylor Quartet)
I haven't spent much time with classical music yet but I really like Mahler and Stravinsky, especially Mahler's Symphony no. 9 and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
There's also a wealth of great instrumental rock and experimental stuff and I'll just finish off by posting a Secret Chiefs 3 track as they've been one of my favourites for ages. They've gone everywhere musically.
