American Idol

I simply do not get what america's fascination with american idol, and shows like it, is. Can someone please explain it to me? It can be an entertaining show (even I watched the finale) but I don't see what propels people to watch and have a vested interested in it.

I resisted watching for a long time but two years ago I watched it and got hooked. It's a fascinating study of personalities and I'm really in awe of the gutsiness and determination of these people. I get involved with cheering on my favorites and the finale at the end is always a great show. It's good, clean entertainment. Maybe people are tired of all the smut and that's why it's so popular.

People like pop culture. They like seeing other people on contests, drama, ect. Same reason people like reality shows.
