2014 FIFA World Cup

It's weird that while I have no interest in football, there's a ingrained response which wants me to attack Siriacha's "wimpy attitudes" remark

I also want to comment on how american football is so homoerotic and melodramatic, it makes gay porn look straight.

Riiight. We all have our opinions, don't we?

I don't care much about the world cup since I never liked football and had to play it SO much as a kid.

Buuut...I was at a party and the England game was on. It was enjoyable, for the first half at least. Then it was dragging a bit.
If any, the big games are going to be the most entertaining. I still don't consider this entertaining enough but it's not as painful as I considered it previously.

I would support England more if they didn't act like they were up there with the top nations when they're just not. A bit of humility would go a long way.

The last half was painful to watch- England was rushing for a goal!

I can only assume you're trolling for attention given the comments you've made in the other threads.

What he's yelling about really did happen though so I don't think he's trolling, I think he's upset about it.

There's a difference.

Edit:
Moreover they kicked hundreds of families out by force, knocked down their homes, and just left all the rubble there and didn't even do anything with the land yet.

They're supposed to be making room for the future but they've left trash and knocked down buildings with all the stuff that was in them right where it fell and now it's full of decay and rats. They didn't even clean up and prepare or anything. What was the point of kicking people out then?

It was more the language, coupled with the post from another thread - it seemed that it was less the message.

I think there's been a lot of horrible and unfortunate events that have occurred in Brazil in relation to the building of stadiums, the contracts for business, and the amount of money that was promised to the community - but never seen. There's no doubt that many locals have suffered from this, much like those the lived in and around Sochi. Any world event that requires a venue like this is going to impact those who are at the greatest disadvantage and most at risk for inequalities. It's a shame, and I know people like myself try and believe that the increase in infrastructure will some how increase their economy and trickle down to them..but it's likely not going to happen.

On the otherside of the coin, I do enjoy these events, and celebrating the hard work that the athletes have gone through to get to this point in their professional career. I also think it's fantastic to see individuals come together to support their countries and different countries around the world. For some, this is their pride and joy.

I am sorry for the negativity. I haven't been like this in over half a year. I just allowed the stress build up and today, I had let it all open up. I didn't expect it to be so bad, I thought today was a good day. It's all about: I've been surrounded by some darker things lately - and I don't know, I just exploded here. I'm not the sort to break things, but to hurt someone online then go for a long walk, listen to some flamenco music and have a long bath . . . . well, it's time to apologize to you, the reader who has had the displeasure of interacting with me.

The whole thing about FIFA is still tragic, it just doesn't affect me as personally.

Simply said, sorry for being a grump.

No worries. It's good to show passion and concern for topics like this, as, you and sprinkles are right, there is a lot of unfortunate things that have, and are, happened/happening. We often let the glam and excitement overshadow these issues. I know I have been swept away by it, and it's easy to forget that this big event will just sweep in and sweep out- leaving people behind. Thank you for reminding me of it- I must say, I'm feeling a bit guilty about watching it now! haha

In my country football/soccer it's almost like a religion. Tomorrow i have a free day because everyone will be watching the game, it's great. Haven't watched too many games, and i don't really care too much about it, but if our team wins tomorrow, everyone will be in a nirvana state, mixed with alcohol and who knows what else, and it's really funny to watch the drunk guys singing and screaming in the streets, so proud of their country... It's kinda sad though.

But then we have this sh!t.

I thought Germany would kick Ghana's ass, but they're totally 50/50. How exciting! It's been four years since a game got me this pumped up. The coffee definitely helped. ;)

I think i will go for Germany, since my grandfather was one and i have the nationality (also chances of winning are higher). But then, i love Argentinians, they're so fun, witty and sweet, i know a handful of them. They're going through a difficult time economically speaking now, lots of poverty and societal turmoil, the world cup would be a relief for them, morally speaking... Maradona is a character too haha, he was much better than Messi at football, and so funny and intelligent.

Hello there, everyone.

Well, now it's over. Now the Brazilians must pay for their government's folly: pay for all the constructions that are still on paper, or half-made, or made so fast (to show some movement) that things like this happened:

(viaduto-g1-1024x641.jpg)

(I could've used the video instead of the image, but I'm not that bad. That viaduct was built for and because of the cup, only, by the way.)

The optimists say that Brazil managed to have 56000 homicides last year; maybe some people will get so angry with soccer to the point of caring about our dead bodies. And the hospitals. Oh, and the schools.

Nice country. I had to get out tonight to buy some food and four different guys kindly approached, intending to help me carrying my stuff and money. They're so helpful! They were so disappointed to find out I didn't help that I almost got shot four times. It's nice to socialize.

Rich country, as well. Not only we could host a world cup, but our president — she's so focused in the important matters, by the way, that one of the first laws she wrote was intended to make hers "presidenta" insted of just "president", which is a machist word that used to apply to both sexes... — managed to invest more money in Cuba's seaports than in ours, which are falling apart. Oh, the solidarity!

I must say, you couldn't ask for so good a video prequel to the Brazilian world cup than the one we had:

Again, it's a very nice country.
