What was the best album of 2012 ?

I just have to post in this thread to give Mumford and Sons Babel another vote. I loved their first album, and love their second even more. I was hoping that Muse's album The Second Law would beat it for top place in my world, because I've always loved them, but it actually confirmed the fact...

How do you feel about makeup?

I can count the times I have worn makeup on one hand, and it isn't 5. once for my year 10 formal, once for a labor party launch where I was singing the national anthem and was on skynews so they insisted, and once at my wedding. I always thought it was a blind girl thing, until I met several...

Interests you share vs. those kept for yourself

I guess most of my interests are interests I share with other people. Music, trivia, politics, chess, strategy games and so on, mainly because having more than one person invilved is often more fun. as for private interests, I tend to keep my love of reading to myself, mainly because I never...

Iceland - the model for government in the modern era

I guess the problems I have with this are that 25 people is hardly a fair representation of the population, and to represent a population fairly you would really have to have too many people to have an effective parliament that you may as well introduce direct democracy. Iceland is also a tiny...

    The Best Advice Ever...

"Get out of the bucket of shit. It takes a lot of courage to do this. the bucket of shit is warm and comfortable, and it's so easy to get used to it. you can slosh around in it and throw it at others, but in the end it's not doing you any good." It's so easy to allow yourself to get bogged...

    If God Were Real...

In answer to the first question, absolutely not. it wouldn't be enough for me that the god in question was more intelligent and the creator of all. what would matter to me would be the use to which it puts that intelligence and power. for example, if this god were the type to allow free-will...

frustration, angst, anguish, desperation. I recognise them easily in others because I experience them a lot.

Arguing about God's existence is nonsensical

Man Robs Bank... For Health Care Benefits

honestly I think the best solution is to have good public healthcare available to everyone who does not earn over a certain amount, which would cover those on benifits and the unemployed and those working in low wage jobs. and have a system where eole who can afford it can have private healthcare.

Man Robs Bank... For Health Care Benefits

I'm still going to say Switzerland is better, even for those who pay privately for health insurance... but that is just nitpicking...

Man Robs Bank... For Health Care Benefits

I would argue that a healthcare system which offers benifits only to the comparitively small number who can afford them is not a good system and certainly isn't the best in the world. I would certainly put Australia, the UK, Switzerland and Scandinavia in front of it. and they are just the...
