What is it that you wish your parents had taught you to do?

What do you think is essential to life that parents should teach their children?

• Don't teach children to fear the world, but prepare them to face it by giving them the tools and confidence to maneuvre and handle it.
• Don't protect them from everything - let them experience some hurt and pain for themselves
• Teach them how to manage their lives - earlier development of organization skills
• Teach them about cars, regardless of gender, function of parts and maintenance
• Teach them interpersonal communication strategies such as negotiation/bargaining, and the tricks which are used to sway them
• Teach them how the world works, not just how it should work - they need the first to understand what the world is like and the second to understand how to change it
• Teach them the value of freedom and the importance of responsibility and accountability - actions have consequences to yourself and everyone else
• Teach them the value of drive and self motivation - don't depend on other people to motivate you. Learn to motivate yourself.
• Teach them a healthy competitive spirit - strive to be the best, not just good enough - this will give them more opportunities later on.
• Teach them to enjoy life and life in the moment - don't worry about the future so much but still plan for it.
• Teach them how much impact they can have on the world, in their own unique way.
