i think that there is no other art form that compares to opera in its perfect synthesis of multiple artistic forms.

I second "Andrea Bocelli AND Sarah Brightman - Time to Say Goodbye" - We considered this song as a possible "first dance" but "saying goodbye" to each other when you've just got married....errr...probably not a good choice.

"Sarah Brightman (born 14 August 1960) is an English classical crossover soprano, actress, songwriter and dancer. She has sung in many languages, including English, Spanish, French, Latin, German, Turkish, Italian, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Catalan.

Brightman began her career as a member of the dance troupe Hot Gossip and released several disco singles as a solo performer. In 1981, she made her West End musical theatre debut in Cats and met composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, whom she married. She went on to star in several West End and Broadway musicals, including The Phantom of the Opera, where she originated the role of Christine Daaé. The Original London Cast Album of the musical was released in CD format in 1987 and sold 40 million copies worldwide, making it the biggest-selling cast album of all time."

I never get tired of watching these two sing this particular song - the body language, the touch, the facial expressions (sometimes a little awkward) - particularly in the absence of sight.

I couldn't agree more, Sarah is phenomenal and they perform so well together. Hope you don't mind that I edited your link to show the video!

i had a discussion [argument] with an acquaintance a while back in which i claimed that the opera singers of the country we live in are "world class". my acquaintance claimed that no, they are not world class, and proceeded to mention some timeless stars who have been recorded and widely distributed over the past century. but i was angered by this. as far as i can tell, the performers in my country have worked relentlessly at their education, have faced tough competition to achieve their position in the company that employs them, and consistently express deep artistic inspiration in their performances. they are great artists - beautiful, mesmerising, captivating. is this not world class performance standard - do the performers of my country not compare to performers of other countries, just because those countries have more rich performance histories? Dame X is dead now, must we always compare our brilliant, hard working artists to her and find them to be lesser? it worries me, because theatre is a living medium; by expecting performers to conform to historical standards, we may completely fail to recognise brilliant and even catalystic contemporary artistic innovations.

Not an operatic example of his work, but still counts imo
