I need a new Job

My current job is completely pointless, and I'm so sick of the political structure and corporate environment. I make decent money, but i am extremely in happy. I am by fault a damn good employee, my work ethic is excellent. I never shy away from responsibility, i take owner ship of anything and everything I'm involved in. Its completely by default I'm like this......i honestly hate that I'm such a good employee. everyone i work with do bare minimum, I'm the only sucker that never says no to my boss. this past year i lived here at work. I really hate it.
any advice i would appreciate. I am greatful i have a job but i am unfulfilled and unhappy with what I'm doing. I need more stimulation, more purpose, i applied to be the trainer here because i by nature love helping people better them selves. But my boss didn't support me on it. He wants his work horse to stay right where he is at.

This seems to be typical of bosses everywhere. The more incompetent they are, the more they need you to stay put.

Having a good boss can make all the difference regarding enjoying your job. You can be in the perfect position in the most perfect company in the world, but if your manager is one who won't let you grow you'll be miserable.

Why don't you apply for other opportunities? Research other companies and their employee reviews online if you can. Maybe network with others in your field to discover other opportunities. I would move on if I was unfulfilled in a job. Personally, I would not stay in the same company--expecting to advance if the culture was not a good fit. It sounds like you would have a lot of transferrable skills to go elsewhere.

I work in the Oil and gas industry. Ive been working in this industry for 10 years. Where i grew up it is dominated by the oil field. So every one in some way where I'm from works in this industry. I never have wanted nothing to do with the oil field. in college i was pre med, ive always wanted to become a an orthopedic surgeon. I had to give that dream up, i went through a great deal of adversity, was dead broke. i applied for a program my last semester i was able to pay for, i had the grades and all pre recs done, i was able to complete a 2 year program receiving a bachelor degree in petroleum technology.
Ive worked on land for BP America, and Offshore in the gulf of mexico on an oil rig, and production platform in the deep water. I was working out there when the spill happened. I work now as whats called a CRO (control room operator) for the biggest oil refiner in the US. the position I'm in is a highly sot after position in this industry. i make really good money, but it is a very stressful job, with extreme responsibility.

Ive thought of going back to school, but i don't have the drive to hit the books again. Id like to go to maybe a trade school and learn how to Weld or even be a carpenter / Stone mason. Not a brick layer stone mason i mean a sculptor, id like to learn how to make any thing out of wood and rock. i feel it would be pieceful to create with my own bare hands.

the thing is i just don't know how to take the first step. I'm literally capable of walking away from this job, but i don't know how. i don't have nothing holding me back. I don't have a wife or kid, I'm not in debt. Basically just me being a Donkey right now

I research constantly, but trust me in this industry it literally doesn't matter how much you know or what your experience is. its almost 100% about who you know. credentials help but are not necessary.

Just sign up, go once. Don't think about it.
Then if you like it you can load up on supplies and get questions answered as you go.
 
Could it also be that you're burnt out? I was at where you seem to be about 1 1/2 years back. Every day was the same old thing, asking to learn more, take on more responsibility, etc was met with opposition. Then I was laid off as my position was taken over by the overseas team (saw it coming, could not reinvent my purpose in the company before it got to me). It was a blessing to my soul as it gave me time to think on who I was and where I need to be.

it could be, but honestly from the beginning, working in this industry to me has felt like a big disappointment. This industry is not for an INFJ to be in unless he or she is in a leadership role or like i mentioned as part of the development teams.
 
It never ceases to amaze me how people from other countries doesn't get it just how much of a work martyr culture we have in the states where basically you have to sacrifice yourself just to succeed. When people from China and other nations come here to work only to realize just how much of a soul draining grind it all is then complain you understand damn well that it is bad here. The work culture in this country is cancerous and the only way out is to either win the lottery (retire early) or to immigrate to an easier slower paced country. Our wages are pure bullshit where wage growth has been slow since the 1970s while the cost of living has only gone up.
 
If you can afford to walk away, just go. When you're without a job, and your job thus becomes figuring out what your next job will be, the whole world opens up. Can you afford to leave your job and take a vacation and decompress, then do some work on yourself to decide what should be next for you?

I had that "opportunity" a year and a half ago when my job was eliminated. It wasn't the best job for me anyway, and my boss was a monster. It was terrifying because I was not financially stable. But I took the time to really explore what would be best for me, and ended up self-employed doing something I enjoy a lot (and making it up as I go, which is creatively awesome). I help people feel better about themselves and their work (although that is not why they hire me) and it is very satisfying.

What is keeping you there? They will replace you.
