Autism is very complex. We really don't know much about it. We do know that there are some genetic componants involved, especially the duplication of certain series. Apparently these kinds of genetic errors happen more often the sperm and eggs of older adults, especially men over 35. It does kind of make sense, as it's true that people in our society are delaying having kids until they are older, and at the same time Autism is increasing. Anyhow, here is a link to the artical. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/05/health/research/scientists-link-rare-gene-mutations-to-heightened-risk-of-autism.html

That's interesting GracieRuth, our son was born later in life. And yes, autism is very complex, and there isn't a lot known about it. I mean when you look at a person like Temple Grandin, and what she has accomplished in her life, it makes a person think about how much of it has to do with how the parents perceive it, how they handle it, and what opportunities the child is given. "Different but not less than". But there are so many varying degrees within the autism spectrum, just like every child is different, every child with autism is different also. What works for one does not mean it will work for another. Sorry getting off the original subject.
