In Sweden, we have a peaceful tradition of throwing a cake on people of the establishment when we want to protest.

Tell me, on whom would you like to throw this beautiful cake? Or post pictures of your traditions, if you have that.

Hah!
I'd be arrested; thrown in jail; and then sent to the psych hospital for a few weeks on top of that ....if I threw that luscious cake at anyone's face.

...and there would be multiple reasons tooo ...including "How could anyone waste delicious strawberries etc on someone's face?" They'd adamantly declare I was crazy based on that fact alone. Hehehehehehehehehe....

How does this discourage anybody from being a badly behaved politician? You get free cake. Don't even need a plastic plate. It's dessert to go.

Cake is great and all but throwing shoes seems more threatening

Similar "tradition" exists in Canada. I suppose, with pie not cake. What happened to the people in Sweden who did this ImaginaryBloke were they charged?? Wikpedia says the pie incident against Carl XVI Gustav could have counted as treason which would have come with a very heavy prison sentence, but because the boy was only 16 and it could not be proven he did it for political purposes he was given a day fine. Either way it seems like risky behaviour to me

Claiming that an opponent is insane is one of the oldest forms of blackmail. I remember an episode in 80's, Dallas or Falcon Crest, about that type of treatment. The prize was inheritance money. :der:

As for the cake, it is an investment, not a waste. You hope to shape a fairer social order. :tongue1:

Yes of course I agree....it's about shaping a fairer society. You and I see that act as such...but people here around me would not. Under the best of circumstances they have politely ignored me when I've figuratively "thrown the cake in their faces"....and others not so much. I've been fired for it you see.

This thread also reminds of so-call "Frivolous Political Parties" and the impact they have on the political system. In Canada we have had something called the Rhino Party for years, sort of dedicated to exposing the ridiculousness of political system. They have never won an election. Then in Iceland The Best Party and the election of Jon Gnarr as Mayor of Reykjavík

I prefer cakes or pies actually.

Yeah, I am so disappointed that W was not hit by a cake. Journalists would have asked "how did it taste?". And W would have answered with irony: "The cream was deliciously frothy. And strawberries on top are better than, e.g., blueberries. You see, I am a dixie at heart."

Reaganomics continued a culture of silence and repression of unions that was initiated in the 70's. People do not feel that they are free to say what they want.

Did no employee ever express sympathy for your plight outside of work?

That is *the question*? Is it not? hahhahah ...

In the case of Bo Ringholm, a suspect was caught and accused of 'molestation' , which is punishable by a fine or a jail sentence of a maximum of one year. The cake thrower got a fine of 2100 SEK (~250 USD). https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%A5rtning

In the case of the king, the conviction was about 3000 SEK (350 USD) for the cake thrower and a bit less for his 'co-criminals'. The 16 year old who threw the cake could formally be charged with treason. But that is a law of ancient times when revolutions, wars and assassinations were common. Sweden has had the longest continuous peace of all existing countries. The last war took place in 1813-14. The king should feel relatively secure on his throne. It is unfair, but the regent cannot be charged with any accusation at all. Formally, he does not have to pay speed fines or parking fines.

In Britain we call this 'egging' - I'm not sure how this came about, but it is fucking hilarious.

Ed Miliband getting egged was one of the funniest things I've seen from his failed campaign.

Although, to give credit to where it is due, Miliband took it rather calmly compared to John Prescott.

I'm partial to glitter bombing. I always thought that was a fun, and harmless, way to protest. :D and it's impossible to get rid of glitter. It sticks to everything! :D Hahaha.

I want to eat that cake, though!

Y'know if this was a used system over here I'd become a political leader and spout all kinds of bullshit just so I could get cake thrown at me and then eat it. "Oh hey, all arabs are thieves, and them polish are sex fiends. Now where's my cake"

Throwing food is childish, and even children have better sense for the most part.

I imagine that throwing food occupies a similar instinct-space as faeces throwing does, in equally developed monkeys and apes.

Rational argument > political pressure > military force > protest > food throwing.

No.
We're all on our own....

If the politician is severly diabetic do you face criminal charges for attempted murder?

Not unless you force them to ingest it against their will. Even doing so would take a great deal of time (of not seeking medication or medical relief) until the kidneys shut down and multiple organ failure occurs.
