What's going on with him?

How interesting. I will remember that. Reminds me of how my favorite professor was the one least likely to praise our work and had no problem addressing our shortcomings. He praised us if we really earned it. We began with 30-32 people in the class and ended with only 5. Students quit because the professor wasn't nice enough. I learned so much from him and grew from his class.

Exactly! And a lot of people quit on the psychologist I'm talking about too. "This guy isn't helping me at all" unknowingly, they've never been helped more with their problems, because they now look within themselves for their own inner resources to cope, instead of depending on outer resources. The ones who stick with him longer, learn and grow. So either way, he is truly helping, although he rarely gets the praise he deserves (which takes a lot of a person - to give up on the opportunity to get recognition for ones accomplishments)
