They say history repeats itself and that there are cycles in history with big events that erase all knowledge of current technology, leaving the very next generation of the ones left clueless.

For example:
If there would be a nuclear war, and there would be just one place left with a couple of people who just don't really know how anything truly is build or made up. they would have to live like middle-aged people again. They use their iPhone but are clueless how such technology is made or how it works.

This would of course be a enormous setback for technological human evolution, but it could also take on a greater path of maybe more spiritual awareness, instead of materialism.

What do you think?

Humans as a whole have and always will pursue spiritual and technological advancements somewhat simultaneously. They propel one another with one taking a lead until the other is needed to pick up momentum. Having a setback would just be a setback.

i think that until relatively recently we were told that catal hoyuk in turkey represented the oldest city on earth but then they found gobekli tepi which has pushed back civilisation to 14,000 years ago

I think that many geologists are now speaking about the idea of there being a big event about 11-12,000 years ago such as a meteorite strike that then led to changing sea levels that may have caught civilisation of its guard

Could that be enough to set back civilisation?

mainstream history says that the minoan civilisation of crete was set back by a tsunami from the santorini volcano so why couldn't an older civilisation have been also wiped out?

I personally love the "big event" theory, love how some entwine the question of the age of the great sphinx into it...the idea that there was a flourishing of civilization way back then that was wiped out by some kind of cataclysm is alluring...but its the evidence that is hard to come by.

well gobekli tepi is a pretty serious bit of evidence!

if the current view is correct that sophisticated civilisation needs a build up process to get to that level of complexity then we can assume that humans have had a level of complexity going back before gobekli tepi

The head of the sphinx is not in proportion to the body and its face still has a lot of definition to the carving when the body is clearly very worn down

if the original face was a lion and the sphinx was aligned with the constellation leo that would date it back 12,000 years

Previously there was no example of civilisation complex enough for such an undertaking. Until gobekli tepi was discovered that is!

Did a Comet Hit Earth 12,000 Years Ago?
Nanodiamonds found across North America suggest that major climate change could have been cosmically instigated
By David Biello on January 2, 2009

Roughly 12,900 years ago, massive global cooling kicked in abruptly, along with the end of the line for some 35 different mammal species, including the mammoth, as well as the so-called Clovis culture of prehistoric North Americans. Various theories have been proposed for the die-off, ranging from abrupt climate change to overhunting once humans were let loose on the wilds of North America. But now nanodiamonds found in the sediments from this time period point to an alternative: a massive explosion or explosions by a fragmentary comet, similar to but even larger than the Tunguska event of 1908 in Siberia.

Sediments from six sites across North America—Murray Springs, Ariz.; Bull Creek, Okla.; Gainey, Mich.; Topper, S.C.; Lake Hind, Manitoba; and Chobot, Alberta—yielded such teensy diamonds, which only occur in sediment exposed to extreme temperatures and pressures, such as those from an explosion or impact, according to new research published today in Science.
The discovery lends support to a theory first advanced last year in that some type of cosmic impact or impacts—a fragmented comet bursting in the atmosphere or raining down on the oceans—set off the more than 1,300-year cooling period in the Northern Hemisphere known as the Younger Dryas for the abundance of an alpine flower's pollen found during the interval.

The cooling period interrupted an extended warming out of an ice age predicted by slight changes in Earth's orbit (known as Milankovitch cycles) that continues today. And it remains an unexplained anomaly in the climate record.

There is also a fascinating paper out by a couple of non archeologists trying to prove that Gobekli was built as an astronomical device to track the comet whose interaction with Earth was the cause of a catastrophic flood which wiped out a post iceage civilization. Of course professional archeologists disagree.

i couldn't comment on that as i'm not familiar with it

can you track a comet like that?

but lets say hypothetically that you can. What we have there is a high level of sophistication 14,000 years ago which makes the building of the sphinx at an earlier than previously suggested date of say 12,000 years ago possible

You can search for the paper online, the whole thing is open source. The basic idea is that a known comet's tail was so thick way back then that when the earth would pass through it the resulting shower was heavy enough to disturb the planet.

I believe the reason Atlantis is a myth now and not a legend or history, is because there is only one original reference to it was by Plato I think... That was 360BC, but mentioned that it existed 9000 years before his time... The time of the great flood...

With the architecture, seen around the world it is definitely possible that great civilizations rose and fell during the past 100,000 years... Even evolving different tech (not less evolved) then we have now...

We are actually not all that evolved as a civilization...

The Forgotten Revolution: How Science Was Born in 300 BC and Why It Had to Be Reborn
the author makes this claim

He argues that our science is a rebirth of the science born in the 3 C bc....but perhaps it was being reborn then aswell.

There is some obscure evidence out there of past civilizations with a high degree of technological know how.
Then there are also items that are “out of time” as in being out of place...like a hammer embedded in coal/rock or other such things.
There is even a spot that is believed to be an ancient nuclear reactor that has melted down, though other scientists claim it was via natural means.

Found in London, Texas in 1936 by Max Hahn and his wife while they were out walking, the hammer also became known as the “London artifact” when the rock in which the tool was found trapped in was determined to be over 400 million years old.
