Maybe soon I'll take the time to find out. Just not now. hehe. Peace.

Yep...good thing Citizen’s United passed...
Look at all the good that it has done this election.
How there hasn’t been an official call for it’s repeal yet is beyond me.
Trump may be in deep shit.

Trump Campaign and Its Chief, Paul Manafort, Try to Move Past Ukraine Report

The Trump campaign was on the defensive on Monday after a New York Times report revealed that its chairman, Paul Manafort, was designated to receive $12.7 million in undisclosed and potentially illegal cash payments from a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine.

Washington County Shocks Big Oil With Ban on Fossil Fuel Exports
Coastal Whatcom County, known for welcoming industry, surprised oil executives and environmentalists alike with 60-day fossil fuel export moratorium

by
Nika Knight, staff writer

In an unprecedented gesture hailed by environmentalists, Washington's Whatcom County enacted an emergency 60-day moratorium on fossil fuel exports late Wednesday.

Environmentalists and industrialists were both shocked by the move from the coastal county once known as "Wide Open Whatcom" for its welcoming of oil refineries and a massive aluminum smelter.

[...]

"Now that Congress has lifted its 40 year ban on crude oil exports," The Stranger observes, "Whatcom County residents are anticipating even more fossil fuel shipments moving through their backyards. Which is why, last night, Whatcom County's seven-person council took the unusual and surprising step of banning all unrefined fossil fuel export permits for 60 days."

@Skarekrow, do you know that county?

Wheeler dealer tactics is like an endless game,
Thinking that it will bring you no shame,
But expect the unexpected,
If your mind is disconnected,
Over here there will be no endless Olympic flame

Yeah...they are trying to build a huge oil export terminal there on the coast...Oregon already told them “no” so they came up to WA state and were on track to build it up along with what would be the largest rail oil terminal on the west coast in Vancouver WA, which is just across the Columbia river from Portland.
The rail travels along the gorge along side the river from the eastern side of Oregon state then at Vancouver it crosses the river into WA, almost everyone along the way has been protesting the oil trains.
Of course the public was told there is nothing to fear...except that just last month an oil train derailed and exploded in the gorge about 45mins east of Portland...they were not equipped to handle the extreme heat and just had to pray none of the other cars blew up also.
This is exactly why the public is upset....the oil did get in the river and that had to be cleaned up as best they could.
Luckily none of the other cars exploded, but the downtown residents of Vancouver where they are planning to build this rail terminal - almost the whole of the public in the city is against it for just the reason that if there were even a small accident it would be very detrimental to the amount of people around it.
But guess what...money talks...it’s been a fight against the oil companies who line the pockets of local politicians.
So we’ll see if it indeed gets built now or not in Vancouver...especially if they are stalling on the sea terminal.
Good for the environment.

Is The U.S. Navy Harming Whales With Sonar?
Posted On August 15, 2016 By Erin Wildermuth

Orca-1.jpg

The ocean is full of noise. Noise from boats, noise from waves crashing against the surface and noise from marine animals. Since the 1950s a new type of noise has made its ocean debut: sonar. As man-made noise underwater becomes bigger, better and more widespread, its impact on marine life is being called into question.

The noise made by animals underwater isn’t really noise in the traditional sense. Echolocation is a way of using sounds to see. It is how marine animals find mates, hunt for food and avoid colliding into their surroundings. It is also how they communicate with one another. In essence, the underwater noise made by animals is how they see and hear. It is necessary for their survival.

[...]

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court agrees with them. Environmentalists brought the issue to court in 2008, citing a Navy document that estimated operations off the coast of California would kill 130,000 marine animals and permanently injure 500 whales. Another 8000 whales would be left temporarily deaf. They asked that certain types of radar be restricted. The court ruled in favor of the Navy, citing national security.

This month environmentalists had their first big win since the disappointing 2008 decision. On July 15 the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Navy can’t just look and listen for marine mammals wherever they want to use their sonar. During times of peace, certain sonar devices will be banned in areas marine animals are known to inhabit.

Those people who approve of using sonar should be fired and be ordered to complete 10,000 h of community service, shoveling dung and shit.

Gaza man builds DIY solar desalination machine, creating 2.8 gallons of clean water every day

Ian Crossland
Aug 11, 2016

The Israeli occupation of Gaza has devastated the community, rendering some 90% of the water undrinkable due to salinity or pollution. People walk through checkpoints to get to work or school and the quality of life has been grueling under Israeli imposed martial law.

This is partly why the invention, created by Fayez al-Hindi, is so great. It is simple in construction and desalinates sea water, producing 2.6 gallons of water every day. This is enough for his family's basic cooking and cleaning needs.

"Sunshine is readily available in our country," says al-Hindi. By heating up the salt water and causing it to evaporate, moisture is collected on the panels and the clean water drips into a collection basin.

Coastal Municipalities Water Utility tested the water to make sure it was actually clean and found that his process is working.

He has begun to proliferate the technology, helping local residents to build more of the solar water purifiers.

I remember reading that it is illegal in some US states to collect rain water in barrels. What if those people also were to have a water purification machine to protect them from pollution?

Pharma CEO gave herself an $18 million raise after hiking
EpiPen prices

Tom Cahill | August 23, 2016

The pharmaceutical company that cornered the market on the life-saving EpiPen and dramatically increased its price also jacked up the pay of top executives.

Between 2007, when Mylan acquired the patent for the EpiPen, to 2015, the wholesale price had skyrocketed from $56.64 to $317.82 — a price increase of 461 percent.

Similarly, compensation for Mylan CEO Heather Bresch increased astronomically over the same time period. According to NBC News, Bresch went from making $2.453,456 in 2007 to $18,931,068 in 2015, amounting to a 671 percent raise over eight years.

But Bresch wasn’t alone in the windfall resulting from the rising price of the EpiPen. Mylan’s president, Rajiv Malik, saw his base pay increase by 11 percent to $1 million annually as of 2015, while Mylan Chief Commercial Officer Anthony Mauro got a 13.6 percent raise, amounting to $625,000 per year.

Millions of people with life-threatening allergies, particularly food allergies, depend on the EpiPen for survival.

When used, the EpiPen provides an emergency dosage of epinephrine to the user, inhibiting a potentially fatal allergic reaction, known as anaphylaxis, from occurring.

The rising cost of the EpiPen also mirrored Mylan’s stock price increase over the same time period.
In the two years after Mylan acquired the EpiPen patent, the price increased by a 5 percent rate.

In 2009, the price of the EpiPen increased by a whopping 19 percent.
And in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, the price went up by another ten percent each year.

The price then shot up rapidly from the fourth quarter of 2013 to the second quarter of 2016, skyrocketing by 15 percent twice a year.

Conversely, between 2007 and 2015, Mylan’s stock price tripled, going from $13.29 per share in 2007 to a high of $47.59 in 2016.

As of this writing, Mylan’s stock is hovering around $45.68 per share on the NASDAQ index, with MarketWatch rating Mylan’s stock as “Bullish.”

According to Bloomberg, the EpiPen now accounts for roughly 40 percent of Mylan’s profits.

Mylan’s greedy business practices are attracting the rancor of parents and politicians alike.
On Monday afternoon, a coalition of U.S. Senators, led by Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, penned a letter to Mylan CEO Heather Bresch demanding she justify her company’s dramatic price increase of the life-saving device.

“This outrageous increase in the price of EpiPens is occurring at the same time that Mylan Pharmaceutical is exploiting a monopoly market advantage that has fallen into its lap,” Sen. Klobuchar said in a public statement.

“Patients all over the U.S. rely on these products, including my own daughter. Not only should the Judiciary Committee hold a hearing, the Federal Trade Commission should investigate these price increases immediately.”

As of Tuesday evening, Mylan had not responded to the request for a Senate hearing.
The Other 98%, a progressive action group, has launched a petition calling on Mylan to make the EpiPen affordable for everyone.

US warns Europe over plan to demand millions in unpaid taxes from Apple
US Treasury says investigations into alleged tax avoidance by US companies including Amazon and Starbucks could create ‘unfortunate precedent’

Rupert Neate in New York

The US has warned the European commission that it will consider retaliating if Brussels goes ahead with plans to demand billions of dollars in unpaid taxes from Apple and other US multinational companies.

The Obama administration warned the EU on Wednesday that its investigations into alleged tax avoidance by US firms, including Apple, Amazon and Starbucks, could “create an unfortunate international tax policy precedent”.

In a white paper commissioned by US Treasury secretary Jack Lew, the US warned that Brussels was overstepping its powers and becoming a “supranational tax authority”.

The US warned that if Brussels pushes ahead with threatened plans to demand as much as $19bn (£14.4bn) from Apple for alleged unpaid taxes as a result of so-called sweetheart deals with Ireland the US Treasury will “consider potential responses”.

The EU has been investigating whether Apple’s tax deals with Ireland, which allowed the company to pay very little tax on income earned throughout Europe, amounted to state aid. The commission is expected next month to rule on the case, the biggest single corporate tax avoidance investigation.

Investment bank JP Morgan has warned that if the commission requires Apple to retroactively pay the Irish corporate tax rate of 12.5% on the pre-tax profits it collected via Ireland it could cost the company as much as $19bn.

A US Senate investigation in 2013 found that Apple paid little or no tax on profits of at least $74bn over four years by exploiting gaps in the Irish and American tax code. The investigation found no evidence of illegal activity and both Apple and Ireland deny any wrongdoing.

The US needs to start collecting taxes from these companies also.
It’s not just Europe that they are skipping out paying taxes on.
We have huge tax loopholes written by the lobbyists of the corporations they represent, then get laws passed by the Congresspeople who are in their pocket. With the way campaign contributions are out of control now...it seems all they care about is getting the money so they can be reelected.
