Alright, after being indirectly dumped and rejected by a friend of mine I decided to go to the gym, start pumping irons and make it a borderline obsession.
Do you work out as well? If so, how many days do you work out within a week? How many years will it take to achieve an ideal body?

Do you work out as well?

Yes.

If so, how many days do you work out within a week?

Three.

You can go as often as you'd like as long as you don't overtrain yourself. Not that that's optimal, just saying it can be done.

How many years will it take to achieve an ideal body?

"Ideal" is subjective. But assuming you're:

1) starting from average (not wildly obese, underweight or working through emotional issues around food, etc)
2) defining "ideal" as somewhere close to lean/fit and not some 'roided up muscle freak
3) working with good information
4) willing to be consistent (which is where 90% of your success will come from)

...probably 1 - 2 years.

So I don't really think it's that healthy to replace a relationship with workouts.
But perhaps I am misunderstanding what you're saying in your post... Working
out is about taking care of your body. It's generally not recommended to be
obsessed with anything. Especially not something that is exhausting.

An ideal body is not something that happens overnight as it seems you already
know. Depending on your body and where you want to be I would say anywhere
from 12 - 24 months before you start getting where you want to be. I know that
is forever. If you're a little on the obese side it may take awhile longer. Once
you obtain your perfect body, working out and watching what you eat doesn't
stop so you could say that having an ideal body is a lifetime of working out
and eating properly.

Diet when it comes to bodies is almost more important than working out. Try
to eat as little processed foods as you can and try not to binge unless you're
a raw vegan. If you are naturally someone who binges I suggest raw veganism
as a diet because you pretty much have to eat like ten pounds of fruit a day
to be healthy and get all your nutrients, etc... this doesn't include the giant
salad you will eat, either. Or the handful of fat.

I workout a few times a week. I really enjoy it. I hate when I miss any workouts.
If you include cardio as working out then I workout a little more than a few times
a week. If you include yoga as a workout then I *try* to workout every day.

It's very important to have rest days when you're working out. I used to not take
rest days and I hurt myself. Make sure you give your muscles time to repair
themselves.

A handful of fats like a handful of almonds or a third of an avocado or
some straight up oils though if you're a raw vegan you generally avoid
the oil and just eat like a coconut or some olives. Not animal blubber.

Do you work out as well?
yes.

it depends on my condition, sometimes 3, sometimes 6, about one week in two months I don't work out at all. I have intense days and also easy days, just because I enjoy it.

erm... what's an ideal body? As for myself – ideal can never be achieved, it is a work in progress and it can be always better, imo. What's important imo is strength and mental health. Exercise can help, I think, but if you treat it properly by being in the right mindset. To be healthier and to feel stronger is, perhaps, a better mindset in order not to become too obsessive.
"Perfect body" takes time, depending on your ideals as others have already pointed out. Good luck with your goals!

the first thing you should do is watch or re-watch "American Beauty"

I watched that two nights ago. Very good!

Hmm...I go swimming most days. I have been meaning to run for ages but seriously can't be arsed most of the time. Swimming is the only thing I enjoy doing.

Press-ups, sit ups and pull ups sometimes too. We have a bar for pull ups...they're so hard but I can do more than Private Pyle so it's a start!

Yup, 3-4/week, and 1 year.

Ideal is average to lean, mind you. I have no desire to bulk up.

Hahaha! By opening that subject it came to my mind about getting stoned while doing sets of bench-press. :D
