And here come the Social Justice Warriors....

As opposed to the preferred Antisocial Anti-Justice Wimps?

I doubt that anybody who clicked on here even bothered to find out what the video was speaking about. It is about how the capitalist lifestyle is bad for our mental and physical health. There is plenty of empirical evidence of this: high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, type two diabetes, depression, anxiety, etc...

I read Dr. Maté's book 'In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts'. It's brilliant. I don't agree with all of his theories, but his explanations of the common human drive to avoid pain and maximize pleasure are spot on. Some humans just have more pain to escape. Any of us who think that we are better than those who are the bottom of the food chain in this society, instead of just being luckier, are just deluding ourselves. That self-serving thought pattern is another form of human weakness.

SJW mentality: "My life sucks, therefore I must blame the system. I am being oppressed."

Capitalism is love, Capitalism is life. <3

I bet that people comment when all they have read is the title - knee-jerk reactions instead of thoughtful analysis.

The problem with capitalism is the same as the problem with communism: people and their greed. Any system would work well if all people were honest and not prone to willingly do things to harm others for selfish reasons.

In any case, the video is about the health implications of capitalism, which there clearly is.

The love of money is the root of all evil. A global system based on the love of money...I mean, come on!

It is not good to make such assumptions about people.

Let's please focus on the topic, rather than on other members. We are better than that.

I was saying that simply because the comments had nothing to do with the content of the video itself. They seemed to be in reaction to the title. If people are going to comment it would be nice if they were actually commenting on the content.

Your lack of capability of looking outside your limited biased view is shining through. You just spout opinions as opposed to thoughtful analysis.

Actually if anyone has read any other posts from this member you would see that he does offer analysis over just a perspective. I think this statement is your opinion on the member, not on his posts. We disagree wth a lot of perspectives, big deal. No need to get personal.

Actually, my original post was in reaction to a previous version of his post, which he edited. I have read many of his posts and have tried to debate him on some of them and he too often retorts to insults and isn't often willing to give some backup to his perspective. I guess I will edit my post now to match his new comments so it doesn't twist my words.

Actually it doesn't matter what post that was in response to. In my opinion you were reacting to and responding to the member, not the content. Please give me one example of him personally attacking with insults and I'll gladly eat my words. I value all opinions and perspectives and though JJJA may offer up an unpopular view, especially for this forum, it is still a valued perspective. I think people take things too personally here, especially when opinions differ.

If you read my posts you would see that I also value people's opinions. His previous post that he edited was a dig at me, so yes, my comment was responding to the member who had just made a comment about me. As I said, it was changed. I don't need to prove you or him right or wrong. I'm just on here making my own comments and he has at times commented in a derogatory way to my posts that weren't directed at him at all. I have nothing against him, or anybody for that matter, but I do not hesitate to answer back to his comments. I'm not sure why you are defending him as I know he is quite capable of doing it himself, and in my opinion people who dish it out should be able to take some of it back.

Does our current mixture of a little capitalism plus a little socialism plus a little this and that also make us sick?

I don't post much, but I read practically everything. For a good majority of the forum, he's a target because of his unpopular opinions. I don't like people being singled out because of something like that. I know he's very capable of defending himself and I'm not coming to the rescue by any means. Just as you're not sure of why I defend him, I'm not sure why you target him. I have no wish to further derail this thread so if you wish to continue the discussion, or not, please do so via pm.

That does seem likely, as the first comment was less than ten minutes after posting a nearly 30min video. This thread was meant to only stimulate conversation about very complicated issues affecting people in today's society. Issues that truly do exist. One of the take away lessons is that any understanding of humans nature as being inherently selfish is an understanding that is both incomplete and unscientific. Only in understanding the true nature of human beings, and the environment they are immersed in, can we even begin to hope in finding any practical solutions.
